Invisible Ads?

Postby Eorlingan Empire » Mon Nov 23, 2015 7:47 pm

I'm NSing as usual, going onto my regional page to talk on the RMB, life is good, and then WHOA

Another tab opens as I click the regional tab, and it gives me this: http://i.imgur.com/ZVO6omQ.png

Once it goes away, it redirects to this: http://www.hm.com/us/happy-and-merry?cm_mmc=Display-_-HM_Holiday%20Phase%201_Q415-_-Vivaki%20US-_-160x600&utm_source=Vivaki%20US&utm_medium=Display&utm_content=160x600&utm_campaign=HM_Holiday%20Phase%201_Q415

Any idea what's going on here? What are these invisible ads I keep getting? This is like, the third instance in less than an hour.

Have you run a virus and malware scan on your computer?

Safari on OS X or Windows? Either way there should be a Reset Safari option in the the settings menu. Do that and restart Safari.

OS X - restarting now. I'll let you know if it happens again.

It seems to only be on NS, no other site seems to have that issue.

More than likely you have some sort of Safari extension that is causing it. If resetting Safari doesn't solve the issue, check the extensions in Safari: preferences -> extensions

Just checked those - haven't seen any anomalies there.

You could try running Malwarebytes for Mac to see if it catches anything: https://www.malwarebytes.org/antimalware/mac/

That ad isn't one of ours. If your machine is clean, it may be injected by something in between you and us, e.g. your ISP. In that case, you can get rid of it by using the secure HTTPS site rather than plain http://.

Then there is something on your computer. Here is an Apple support article that covers this problem pretty extensively: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203987

Other than that, this isn't an NS problem, so I'm going to lock this.
