Postby United German Regions » Mon Nov 02, 2015 2:51 pm

I have a dispatch with banners in it. I am using the exact same BBC Code but the sizes are different.

I was doing some testing on this, and was able to replicate under some strange conditions -

What made me get the same thing was having some code, then some regular text, then a space, then the bar.

EX:

[b][./b]
Test

<the line of dashes>

Any code I tried (italics, color, etc) in place of the bold had the same effect. If text reads like

[b][./b]
Test

Test2
Testt3
<the line of dashes>

It still does it, just needs to have an enter in there somewhere.

Adding in another code before the line removed the effect, i.e.

[b][./b]
Test

test2
[i]test3[./i]
<the line of dashes>

DOES NOT create the effect.

Can confirm it is the same characters, same parallelogram, etc. - I tested using one line and manipulating it.

One error also created several subsequent ones to shrink as well, i.e.

[b][./b]
Test

<the line of dashes>

[b][./b]
Test
<the line of dashes>

Both are smaller than the others.

Even pairs of tags makes them big again....in some cases. So maybe that's not a thing.

But something is definitely odd here!

Jesus, Hobbes, it's 2015. You can't just call someone "the color".

To be totally honest, there are quite a few players who have more experience with bbCode than we do. As such, player opinion and suggestions probably carry more weight than mod opinions.

Regardless of that fact, only Game Admins can deal with gameside settings. Right now that means [violet] and Ballotonia.

I ask because I am really sure I have seen this topic appear before and I would hope it be fixed instead of having to try and go through extra stuff to avoid it as Ever-Wandering was talking about.

You complain A is different from B, but provide only one link. What is different from what else? And which browser do you use to view?

It's within the same dispatch - some of his bar lines are rendering different than others.

Would replicate here but the background block bbcode doesn't seem to work forumside.
Replicated here instead: https://www.nationstates.net/nation=eve ... /id=509702
See: the second bar renders as shorter, even though all four bars are the same exact code and all tags are nested correctly.

I'm on chrome, and seeing it. Not sure what he's running.

Hello again,

Yes, I see it now too. The HTML code is actually the same for each line. But a browser does something different with it because the context of that second line is different.
The text before the second bar is ended with a <p> (in HTML, it's a blank line in the Dispatch). This causes the span (text size 120%) to be terminated with an implicit </p>, so that the text of the bar after that is in font size 10pt instead of the 120%. Removing the blank line after the last 'text' solves the problem.

I've tried a bit, but was unable to figure out a workaround to add an empty line without the effect happening.

EDIT: NS should probably insert a <br> there instead of an unclosed <p>, but [violet] is better at that part of the codebase than me so I won't make any quick change right now.

Changes between Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Chrome. 90% of the time Chrome.

Also, I only provided one link because it is a problem within the one dispatch, just wanted to reply to that post, I see you already figured it out though.
