And yes, during the event, the Zombie Emergency Command Center will be unlocked and moved back out of the Archives. ;)

Will it be only during the event, or could we have it a couple of days before it begins? It would allow new players time to catch up on the details regarding the event and allow veterans to build strategy.

Not entirely sure yet, but I might toss it back up the day before (and let it run for a few days afterward.)

This discussion of Zombies in Technical reminds me to let people know of some tools I've made publicly available.

First, the quite simple Zombie Watchtower, excellent for regions on the small end, and requiring very little effort to get working.

As I did last year, I've made the system I used the previous year for The North Pacific, Taijitu, and Lemuria available to the public. The Zombie Radar is a sophisticated near-real-time zombie tracking system, able to compose eventually complete strategic awareness for groups of regions of up to about 4250 nations total. If there is interest, I can provide guidance on setting it up.

Edit: Changed 4800 to 4250 to account for safety margin of the rate limiter. Note: eventually complete awareness means that by the end of an hour, it will have checked the infection level of that many nations during that hour: once a nation is checked, it will keep up with how the level changes due to player actions. The smaller the group of nations you're watching, the earlier in the hour complete strategic awareness will be achieved. The radar prioritizes nations that are impacted by events or have a large population.

You'll find here when they first started it.

And here: http://www.nationstates.net/page=news/2 ... index.html

This event has turned into a tradition of sorts where for I believe 24 hours a zombie virus takes over your nation and it's your job to either side with them, fight them with military or create a vaccine. You have the option to "cure" other nations once you've created a vaccine and send hordes of zombies to other nations. Regions also have the ability to "lock" there borders not allowing anyone in or out. Your region may or may not have a strategy to survive the Apocalypse.

Anything else anyone can add?

Not necessarily; it all depends on your ability to fight and control the outbreak. But yes, they do have a better chance at surviving.

I can't think of anything that brings a region more activity than a Z-day on NS. Even the least active regions will suddenly spike in activity. Let us hope this continues. Also, I wonder if there have been little tweaks to the system. Perhaps the ability to launch zombie into outer space? Maybe the ability to harness all their undead power to become some sort of super demon? Maybe the cure missiles will malfunction and, instead of curing people, turn millions more into zombies?

Maybe 2-3 times per year surprisingly.

Part of the fun is the preparation with your region. Anticipation, making plans, etc.

I'd like an option where an entire region can pool its resources and attempt to convert/nuke/cure other regions. Especially if pooling resources makes the region somewhat vulnerable to "inside attacks"...

Please refer to me/my nation as Novaya in both IC and OOC, NOT Novaya Equestria.

How do you tell it what region to track?

If it's personal, send a telegram. If it's game related, post it. You don't need to ask permission to post a question. That's really more annoying than asking a dumb question in the first place.

Yeah, I've only been using it with one region so it's not easy to configure yet :p

If people are interested, I'll certainly make it easier. Taking the region name on the command line (like your solution) seems like a good way to go.

I've been reading dispatches lately, so, another question: does your population stay dead if you choose the exterminate option?
