Suggestion-Federations, Confederatioms etc.

Postby Australian rePublic » Tue Sep 01, 2015 5:51 pm

Suggestion. There should be an option in the settings where you can click a button that will allow you to select that your nation is a federation, confederation etc. Clicking this button will unlock two boxes where you can name your subdivision type. The defult would be province. The second will be the plural which will be defulted as provinces
And your page could say, for example, "Australian Republic is a federation divided into states, and each state has a certain level of autonomy"
A new macro can be added @@DIVISIONS@@
This simple piece of code can open up new doors for NationStates. One such door is issues where there could be a range of federation spacific issues, such as deligation of power, successionism, etc. As well as issues specific to unitery states

What if @@DIVISON@@ was shown to someone who wasn't a federation?

if @@DIVISION@@ holds the subdivision type (and its plural?) you can have a deafult value which symbolizes no-subdivision (like the wa, or leader shards).
if @@DIVISION@@ holds the subdivisions' names, each name will be in a nested tag, and a unitary nation will have an empty list.

The national leader, capital city, and religion settings were added in 2009. Custom pretitles date to 2003. (Not sure when national animals were added, they might have been here from the beginning)

Factbooks were added in 2012.

What's your point?

Australian Republic's point, like almost every Tech thread OP, is that he thinks this is an awesome idea and doesn't want stock answers as to why it isn't.

Australian Republic wrote:This simple piece of code can open up new doors for NationStates.

That's true of virtually every suggestion ever made here in Tech. That doesn't make it a good idea. There's nothing in there I find appealing for any of my nations, particularly since several would involve quite a bit of work for the mods and issue techs. You are, once again, proposing something that is of zero importance to anyone who doesn't roleplay their nation to some degree. Out of the 131,122 nations in the world this instant, I seriously doubt that more than 1,000 of them roleplay. Given the amount of puppetry involved, the number of unique players who roleplay is probably a whole lot less.

As has been mentioned, this is something that would do well in Factbooks or Dispatches. Not seeing a need for it beyond that.

It is not a good idea because there is too much work in implementing it and it can easily be dome in your's factbooks anyway.

Too much work?

You're wanting to integrate it into issues/create new issues around this concept, right?

One of the things

Think of how much coding and time that'll have to go into this for only the few select nations that would actually use it.

Use your fact-book, it's what it's there for.

Why is it that when a Senior Game Official gives you the detailed reason that's it's a lot of work for just a few nations, you reply:
Australian Republic wrote:We'll why isN'T it a good idea?

But when someone else posts EXACTLY the same argument in fewer words, you reply:
Australian Republic wrote:

Given that, I think we're done here. Thread locked.
