[SUGGESTION] Non-plural option for currency.

Postby Solitan » Tue Jul 28, 2015 3:53 am

Hello! I have noticed that when you enter a word or phrase for your national currency (for example, a dollar), it will add an s on the end for any figure greater than one. This is understandable for many currencies as it is in real life. You have dollars, euros, pounds etc...

My nations currency is a play off of the old Roman currency, the denarii, I called it the Sol Denarii. Denarii, as I am sure you are aware, is its own plural. 1 denarii, 2 denarii.

NS currency is forced to be plural, therefore I have am having several trillion denariis, which is quite incorrect.

I suggest an option be added for whether or not we wish to have a plural function on our currency, like the plural function for our demonyms.

If you like this idea, do express support below. If you do not/see any other way to make it better, again, comment below with your idea.

I would support this proposal because the plural for the Minoan tala (e.g one tala) is simply the Minoan tala (million tala) – same as Samoa.

Some issues would have to be modified to take currency plural rules into account, meaning that @@CURRENCY@@ would have to be split into @@CURRENCY@@ AND @@CURRENCYPLURAL@@, as we have done when we introduced demonyms. The additional currency fields would be hidden by default, as with the demonyms feature.

Optionally, opportunity could also be taken to introduce subunits and/or its subunit-to-unit ratio: it would open up fractional units in issues and take non-decimal divisions like the ouguiya into account , but it would result in a major change in methodology for on and off-site economic calculators if we allowed players to set the subunit-to-unit ratio, and there is a risk of confusion.

I doubt if a second subunit would be popular because (in the UK) we were the last country to ditch the pounds shillings and pence system, way back on 15 February 1971.

I will support this,as the Tuvan aksa can be pronounced either way, with or without the s.

Or how about two fields? One for standard, one for plural. In case your currency is octopus, and you want the plural to be octopi.

Or if it were lira, and the game uses lire as the plural, even though you use lira as the plural.
