Fundamental game design flaw

Postby Republic of Star Island » Tue Mar 03, 2015 10:04 am

There is no possible way that an economy or a population can grow forever. The population of nations has to somehow be tied to the resources a nation has. I have developed a Left-Wing Utopia that was doing just fine up until about a week ago, when the economy suddenly imploded. I think it's because the game mechanics say that population increases every day. This needs to be fixed.

My nation is the Republic of Star Island.

It's been like this for 12 years now and isn't changing anytime soon.

You're welcome to roleplay a different population if you have a issue with that.

It doesn't need to be fixed. It's been like this, like Hobbesistan said, for twelve years.

Also, your economy didn't "Suddenly" implode. Look at the line graph of your Economy. It was already on a downwards streak.

Population didn't cause your economy to implode. Population doesn't affect any other stat.

This is an interesting but very debatable point. Can technology allow humanity to expand in numbers and quality of life indefinitely? Or do natural resources set a hard fixed limit? I'm an optimist, myself.

Also, due to its satirical and thoroughly less-than-serious nature, Nationstates has always had a somewhat tenuous connection with reality. ;)

What is this 'reality' you speak of?

Mine imploded overnight.

Because of this: 2 days 19 hours ago: Following new legislation in Knezopoljska, Marshal Knezomir has been self-declared as the Most Supreme Magnificent Overlord of Everything You Ever Saw.

Here's the option you picked:
2. "Give me that!" interrupts your brother, incorrigible as always. "I've got an idea, bear with me for a moment... a few penstrokes here... a few clauses there... finished. Now you can set yourself up as Supreme Evil Overlord For Life! If you don't have complete control then where's the fun? That's what I say. I've taken the liberty of cutting some of the more boring departments, we only really need the police and military in my opinion. Oh! You get a free space hopper too."

Some players lovingly refer to that as the 'North Korea option'.

That and Option #1 of issue 221 are two of the most notorious issues of all time. We get complaints about those all the time.
