April's Fools
Lib & Con: Add banners from Liberal and Conservative NS to banner options in Rift.
NS Hacked: This
IPO: This or maybe this.
Zombies: Already included.
Bytecoin: This

I've looked for stock images of a Nintendo DS, but a quick scan didn't give any scenic or banner-worthy images.
Alternatively, could just go with this

For Bytecoin, how about this?

Ultimately it's [violet]'s choice, but either looks good for me.

I tried to stick with [violet]'s comment on banners in mind, being that they should preferably be a view or scene that could actually be taken in your nation.

Ah, I see. In that case yours is probably better, though a bit less visually impactful.

Don't forget NS Dates or the UN C&D order! Or the population reset of 2004, or NS Homeworld Security, or ... whatever else we might be forgetting in there. *nods*

NS Dates could be combined with a "valentine"-themed banner. About the rest...welllll, feel free to browse the wares at Shutterstock ;)

Hmm, would be quite a few, though they all seem different enough that we could come up with banners for them all.

The problem with past ones(especially when you go back more and more) is that it is hard to verify who was existant and who was not. Yes, there is the daily dump, but not all of them are there (nsarchive.net)t. Only going back to 04-04-2011. So 2012, 2013, 2014 are the only possible ones.

And I've not even started yet if there is a way to verify (besides word of the ones providing the dumps, pre-acquisition of the nsarchive by [v]) that a dump of a specific date is actually the dump of that specific date?

So at most, 2012-2013-2014 will be the april fools banners of the past I guess (if [v] wants to do this).

Aye, I see your point. I was slightly afraid of that.

Oh boy. That does sound cool. But I'm slightly terrified by the idea of adding more work to something that already takes a scary amount of time each year and only lasts a day. And then all the players complaining they missed out on the banner because they didn't log on that day...

Yeah. Definitely possible. Not sure if practical.

Maybe unlock all April's Fools banners if you were present for one, then?

Just for the record, I complied this April Fool's list. I've located tracking methods for two of them (NationDates, Zombies), but there's no obvious ways to identify who participated or even logged in on that day on the majority of them. [violet] may be able to identify the IPO and ByteCoin participants, but I don't have access to that view.
Old April Fools Day pages
2004: Everyone's population set to 5 million for the day. (No link)
2005: Site interdicted by Homeworld Security. (link expired)
2006: Site merged with dating service, NationDates. (link expired) (I think we can prove which nations participated in this one)
2007: Regional Moderators added. (No link)
2008: United Nations no-prank: http://www.maxbarry.com/2008/04/02/news.html
UN Cease & Desist letter: http://www.nationstates.net/unlegal.pdf
2009: NS for Nintendo DS: http://nintendo.nationstates.net
2010: Liberal & Conservative themes and forums (see Archives)
Liberal theme: http://liberal.nationstates.net
Conservative theme: http://conservative.nationstates.net
2011: Nations hacked prank (no link)
2012: Initial Public Offering for NS shares: http://www.nationstates.net/page=ipo
2013: Zombie infection hits nations and regions (can track zombies, but not specifically AF zombies)
Zombie Control: http://www.nationstates.net/page=zombie_control
2014: ByteCoin exchange: https://www.nationstates.net/page=bytecoin_marketplace

Note that this isn't a commentary on whether April Fools banners are worthwhile - just a bit of research.

Hmm... is it not possible to use the "Founded:" date to determine? Activity might be a bit much to handle, but could a check to see if the date of founding is before or after the given day work?

As a concept I do not like banners which one cannot possibly obtain in the future regardless of how much time and effort one spends.

It would avoid people suggesting banners for things that don't exist or can't be tracked, like "number of alpacas".

Though let that by no means discourage you from introducing an alpaca-themed banner ;)

Ditto, 'Bee-keeping industry'.

Hmm. Maybe just one unified April Fool's banner, then? Though that might detract from their fun.

Aye, I agree, which is why I'd personally go with unlocking all holiday banners when you participate once.

Or just having a single April Fool's banner which includes elements from all April Fool's? Would it be possible to modify a banner once it's been added?

Suggestion for a banner evocative of Asian architecture. I'm role playing as a Pacific Rim nation. Would be cool to have that banner.

What about a banner for completing the full "tree" of the new issue chain?

Banners for how long you've been a WA Delegate would be cool. 3 days, 1 week, 1 month, 1 year, etc.

Those would be a bit repetitive. Maybe just one for a year or something, or being the first delegate, stuff like that.

Some suggestions:

Banners for having 9/18/all 27 nation classifications at one time or anotjher,
In=character, Kaboomlandia is a World Assembly member and abides by its resolutions. If this nation isn't in the WA, it's for practical reasons.

A banner with clowns on, for taking the issue option that involves using them as teachers?
