Anyway, it loses it's transparency because it is resized. To avoid it resizing I quote a part of the flag uploading guidelines:
Automatic Flag Resizing

Your flag will usually be resized to fit within 214x142 pixels. Both height and width must fit, so if, for example, your flag is perfectly square, it will be resized to 142x142. This process also converts animated GIFs into static images.

Exceptions: You can have a bigger flag than usual if its filesize is very small: if it's under 12kB and the image fits within either 428x284 pixels or 107x426 pixels, it won't be resized. Note that 12kB is normally too small for photo-like images (like JPEGs), and only suitable for fairly simple PNGs.

Well I never had encountered the problem, and looking at [violet]'s update, resizing it seemed to fix the problem. Though it blends into the background banner now, it's not much else. Thank you.

That's what you tend to expect with a transparent background.

I have to say the "egosearch" option on forums is absolutely wonderful. It's more convenient since it's a 1-click right to topics I have on my watch list rather than going through to the control panel to that information. I love Rift so far because of so many other added features with it; it's nice to see this come about, it's a great "give back" to the community.

:P If you click on "View your posts" in the bar that contains "members" and "user control panel" it also takes you there, and that link's been there for ages.

By that point I'm already on the forums. I don't shortcut to the forums, I shortcut to the site itself and then I go into the forums.

I suggest an update to the FAQ: according to my research for a 300 by 1200 pixel banner, the action safe area of the banner, or the parts that doesn't get cropped out in most screen sizes, is:

- 112 by 1016 pixels when the real banner height is 240 pixels, centred vertically and horizontally.
- 264 by 1200 pixels when the real banner height is 180 pixels, also centred vertically and horizontally but taking side cropping into account for smaller screen sizes (< c.1,000 pixels wide).

Please refer to my current custom banner to see what I mean.

Oh. What I tend to do is I go to the forums, open up an egosearch tab and keep refreshing it while opening new tabs off it to post.

Acharastan wrote:I think a cool thing to do with rift would be to have a setting where you can create your own color/colour palette. Think about it: color coding, custom themes, all the wow!

I don't think it's that easy. You'd probably be better off using a plugin that does it for you.

Getting ideas is usually the easiest part. Getting those ideas into code is a whole different story.

That actually doesn't sound particularly difficult. It would involve three parts:

  • Color palette settings page (or possibly just an addition of more settings to the existing settings page) to accept user-specified values
  • Inclusion of those values among the preferences data for a particular nation
  • Hooks in the server-side generation of each page (I'm assuming everything's dynamically-generated at this point) to throw in an extra <style>...</style> containing the colorscheme modifications specified in the nation's preferences (an alternate approach would be for the server to generate a separate "$nation.css", but I haven't the slightest clue if NationStates' codebase would support that; it would probably require leveraging something like SASS or SCSS to dynamically generate CSS files from templates, possibly caching the compiled stylesheets for performance).

This would probably actually make the code cleaner and make programming easier in the long run, since now you don't have to maintain separate themes for different colorschemes; Rift and Dark Rift, for example, could share the exact same code, and Dark Rift would just exist as user-specific overrides of Rift's default CSS. In fact, this is probably already the case; this would just make that scenario user-adjustable instead of entirely behind the scenes.

I like the banner feature to Rift but other than that I'm pretty neutral towards it now.

Would it be possible to implement some options for notifications?

For example, I'd like to disable all the ones except for ones involving forum responses.

Not sure anyone else mentioned this, but it annoys me that when I am on the forums, I cannot see if someone messaged me.

Please read the opening post. It's already mentioned there. In short, turn the sidebar off with the "x" that appears when you hover over the novel ad.

Offsite links already have a little Image icon beside them; I think it would be excessive to make them a different color.

Well, that does only apply to gameside, as far as I've seen. Forumside, only forumside links can be differentiated because they're not underlined - that and links using the "nation", "region", "proposal" and "post" tags.

So, I have a good environment and all, but somehow, still unlocked the "Temperature Dropping" banner, which states "Develop an inhospitable climate ".

Is this a bug, or does it refer to conditions other than nature?

That one is actually based on how friendly your citizens are to strangers. Icy wasteland type banners are broadly linked to low compassion/empathy scores. (No relation intended with RL icy countries.)

I'll see if I can get a picture.

EDIT: Picture added. The notifications are on the top half of the picture and the top of my telegrams list is on the bottom half of the picture (I don't get much mail).

I was checking a puppet nation and there they received a telegram from one of the nations mentioned in the notices for mine (see above picture).

The telegram is tag:API. Could this be the issue?

I think I know what's going on, but would like some people who have experienced this issue to tell me if it sounds right. I think what happened was you received a recruitment TG, but it was pushed out of your inbox before you read it. In the pic above, your Inbox is full (20 messages), and in that situation, receiving a new regular telegram causes an older TG to be deleted to make space for it. The system tries to delete the message you probably want least, so prioritizes deleting recruitment TGs.

So I think you did receive this TG but didn't get to read it in time before it was auto-purged.
