Removing Topics from Egosearch

Postby Jinwoy » Fri Nov 21, 2014 8:06 am

I know there is a way to hide them with NS++, but alas, I'm on mobile and cannot do it.

Is there a way, on legit NS, to remove topic listings from egosearch?
If there were, it'd be great because I'm currently subscribed to topics I have zero interest in being a part of because of what a clusterfuck some threads are (official LGBT rights, for example), but was forced to because of a thread merger by admins/mods.

Cheers in advance.

Unfortunately (unless I'm wrong, which I doubt it in this case) there is no way of doing this on the mobile site at this time (or, there is - but not really. It involves using a browser that can force the site to show the desktop version, but then the usability would drop substantially).

I would, however, join you in requesting it be looked at as a feature to include though. It is definitely something that would improve mobile browsing on NS.

bump

also, I would really like this feature. Unless there is some practical reason its not possible, detailed by an official response from the dev-coder-mod gods?

Egosearch is just what it says, a search of <yournation>'s posts. It's not stored - it's freshly generated as a search each time you click "view your posts". As such, the only way to remove items from it would be to delete your contribution to <whatever thread>.

The admins made the fundamental decision to not allow players to delete their own posts. Unless this changes (and I don't consider that likely), there's no way to remove topics from egosearch.

Apologies if I'm wrong Fris, but I read that differently.
As I'm sure you're aware, in Egosearch on the desktop site (UNSUBTLE EDIT: Forgot to mention the words "with NS++"), there is an "ignore" button so you can hide them. I thought that they were asking if the same buttong either was, or could be added to the mobile site.

The ignore button you are talking about it a NS++ feature, not an aspect of the base site.

..correct. Though the answer stays the same - it can be done on desktop with NS++ but not on mobile. Mostly because NS++ isn't on mobile.

If this is a question about NS++, why isn't it in the NS++ thread?

Thing is, what NS++ does has nothing to do with how that function works on our end. The View Your Posts link basically submits a search with the same parameters as though you went to the Search page, ran a search by author name, and spitting the results back as a list of topics. All NS++ does is give you an ability (I would assume local only to the machine running NS++) to not display all the results. We have no way to edit a search result like that to ignore or otherwise not display specific results from this end; the software just flat out does not have a way to tell the search function that "By the way, X user has tagged Y thread they posted in as ignored, don't show this in the search result."

Closest we've got is using the subscribe or bookmark functions (down at the bottom of the page on any given thread) to track threads you want to actively track, rather than 'View your posts.'
