[IDEA] Automatic forwarding of telegrams

Postby Rifty » Mon Oct 27, 2014 2:14 pm

Idea One

A lot of people have multiple puppets and if everyone is like me - They don't check them every day, My idea is to be able to set up your puppets to forward all telegrams it receives to your main nation OR just have all telegrams sent to the puppet go straight to the main account. This would be something you can switch on and off as well as decide where it goes too. A telegram prior to the commencement of this feature would be sent to the nation wishing to be forwarded to allow forwarding to begin.

Example:
It would tell the person who sent the telegram too that it had been forwarded to the "designated inbox" for the individual. When the person replied i am not sure if it would come stating it was sent from the main or from the puppet.

Idea Two

An issue brought up is the increase risk of CTEing down to people not needing to check their inbox - A possible reminder telegram 5 days prior reminding you that it's about to CTE. Another option could be that puppets linked to that account can not CTE until unlinked from the main account OR if the main account CTEs itself.

How's it sounds?

Make sure there's a confirmed acceptance or something. Like an automated telegram says "Such and such wishes to forward telegrams to you automatically do you accept?" Sort of thing.

Other than that approved.

Interesting idea. The only thing I would add would be some way for the delivery to look like it was sent from the puppet. So if a TG is sent from Indian Empris Republic and forwarded to me, I then reply making it look like it was sent from the other nation.

Neat idea, though I have NO idea how technically complex it would be to implement. Some possible cons though:
-Less reason to routinely check puppet accounts, possibly increasing the odds of forgetting to login to them leading to CTEs
-Could lead to greater TG box flooding that would only be partially negated by buying the bigger TG box, depending on the number of puppets and the relative TG activity on them. If you have a dozen puppets all passing their TGs along to you, you might be at an increased risk of having a full box and thus missing TGs entirely.
-Possible unacceptable increase to server load (could be mitigated by setting it up so that a TG can only be forwarded once?)

Just my quick US$0.02.

Yeah there is the issue of puppets CTEing but that issue has always been around. It's a choice between easier and better communication or slightly less risk of CTEing occurring. However I think we could avoid this by having this feature also send you a telegram every time a puppet is about to CTE - Maybe 5 days prior to it happening.

Over-full inbox is an issue that can only be gotten around through the purchase of Postmaster(-General).

The server side of it is all on you guys - Ain't my field :P

Really good ideas. What if there was a daily digest of all puppet telegrams that could be sent to you?

We already have an email system in place that can email you when a nation is about to die.

Well than that provides a way around the increased CTE rates - I still think a telegram system would be much better

I agree with Rifty here. Since who checks their email every day, literally?

Learning that if you don't check your email once in a while bad things happen through a restorable nation in NationStates disappearing seems one of the less nasty possible ways to learn that lesson.

The system emails you one week before the nation CTEs. So you have to check your email once a week and then subsequently login the nation.

Anyway, the CTE-email system is not up to debate here.

Thank you :)

Back on topic - The only issues really been pointed out is if the server would deal with it, how complex it would be to get implemented AND the increased CTE rates.

Now the CTE rates can be softened with people checking their emails once a week. The other two issues we'd need [Violet] to comment on i suppose.

Good ideas.

However, I do not see consequences in increased possibility forget make login to puppets, after all it is everyone own responsibility make such logins if they want keep their puppets alive.

What if this TG forwarding option would be implemented to a nations' dossier in way you can see there are unread TG waiting in your Own dossier nation's (Determined by both E-mail address and IP-Address, and possibly with Confirmation from dossiered nations itself) TG box? That way over full TG Box and possibly missed TGs would be avoided in your nation which Dossier you would use for that purpose.

(I have no any kind hint what are system/programming requirements of these ideas.)

Great idea actually - I never thought of that. I'll add it to the OP soon.

I can see this as a far better way to organize the telegram forwarding system.

It would be no harder to implement, that e-mail forwarding on an e-mail server....

Thank you for suggesting this Rift. I have been thinking about this for a long time, but just never had the time to write up a proper OP about it, in technical.
