Question - About forum logout mechanism

Postby Ainin » Fri Oct 24, 2014 8:42 am

I remember that a while back, the forum wouldn't log you out from Location A if you logged in from Location B later. I'm curious, (why) did that change, or am I just misremembering?

This depends on how long you have the forums up. If it is up for a few minutes, not a prob. Hours causes your session to expire and you will be logged out.

This is visibly not true. Try it.

People who use NS++ will remain logged in for hours on end, because NS++ will keep the session alive in the background. But NS by default does have a session expiration: if NS doesn't hear from your computer for a long time you are considered logged out.

Yeah, but that's not really my question. Say, I'm logged into my PC onto the forums and then I log in on my phone. The PC session will log out. I'm wondering why/should this is happening.

Yes, this is entirely intentional. It's to prevent all sorts of problems (and was implemented as a response to those) with multiple players being logged into the same nation at the same time. And the solution is simple: when you get back to your computer you just log in again et voila: problem solved.

Right, that makes sense. Thanks!

Doesn't log in automatically work around this or no?

It'll automatically log you back in when you refresh a page, yes. That will then also automatically log out the phone session.
