I believe that GIF images have to be of a certain size to be able to display properly on NS. However, Animated GIFs will usually be reformatted as static images.

You can give this site a try, to resize things:
http://ezgif.com/Depending on the length/complexity of the *.gif, you may be out of luck. However ... maybe it's worth a try?
