New Member: Posting Images Q

Hello, another stoopid question by a newer member who's not as tech savvy as many of you!

I am trying to figure out how to post images that I have stored on my laptop into NS Forum posts (where appropriate, of course.) The only image feature (using the html [ img ] coding asks for an URL.

Does this mean that in order to post a picture, I must upload it first to some website, get the image URL, and then insert it? Or is there some easy copy-and=paste or browse-and-insert command that I am not seeing?

You need to upload it to an image hosting site like photobucket or imgur first.

Along with what Luna Amore said, if you have an image that's already on the Internet, you can just right-click it and copy the image location and paste it into [img] tags and it will work the same way.

That's hotlinking and not a good idea. It's better to reupload it on an image hosting site.

Blaat summed it up nicely in reference to a flag suggestion but it applies to this too:

2. Using html addresses as flags is hotlinking. It carries certain risks. For example, today I hotlink to an image of a nice cute sheep. The webhost of that nice cute sheep sees me hotlinking here and changes the link to a picture of a penis. Mods see it, and I get warned. Let's not do this. By forcing it to be an upload, this danger of hotlinking is removed.
