Glen-Rhodes wrote:What "file" do you have? If you have the database file (it would end in .sql), then there really should be no difficulty restoring it on a new MediaWiki installation. That would give you all the articles on the wiki, at least. Images, thumbnails, skins, and extensions would have to be restored from a full backup, rather than a database backup.

e: The larger database has more data, so that's the one you want to use.

Correction, mine's about 306 MB. Don't really know where that extra 7 MB came into play, but perhaps one of us have a non-corrupt version?

The decompressed data includes tables up to ‘revisions’ in alphabetical order. The ‘text’ table, which is where the actual article text would be, is completely missing.

This was what I thought when looking at it, but I wasn't sure as a non-expert. Um, before anyone here criticizes Goob, honestly, I doubt he knows he didn't send us the full package of data - in eleven years, he's never needed to give it to someone else. He's hard to get a hold of, so this could take a while. Thanks.

That's what I ran into as well. He tried to export the database using phpMyAdmin, but that software cannot export a database that size under standard configurations. He should have used the command line or something like MysqlDumper. Unfortunately, unless he still has the full database available to him, there is nothing anybody can do now.

I found a version of my own page that was newer than the 2008 version on archive.org, and saved it to local storage. The Internet Archive might not have every single edit of every single page, but it's a better than nothing self-help end-user solution.

Not sure what files you have or the amount of data you've got from Goob. But as the maintainer of IIwiki, I would be happy to lend my expertise in any way that I can / you need. Just to give you some perspective, though. A backup of IIwiki's database (compressed with gzip .gz) is 693MB. This is generated weekly, so that's about 10,000 articles there. NSwiki had about 50,000 articles or so iirc, so you are looking for a compressed file of about 3.5GB.
EDIT: I would also be willing to help host it as well, if we ever come to that.
