Dark theme: Smilies Have Borders

Postby Hindenburgia » Thu Mar 20, 2014 8:39 am

Something I've been noticing for a while is that, when using the dark theme, a number of the smilies have while "borders" around them. Here are a few examples:
   :ugeek:

I am running Firefox 27 on Windows 7, and it is the case both with and without NS++ enabled.

That's been a persistent problem since the theme was created, and it's because these original smilies were never really meant to be used for a dark theme. The green and gray thread icons in each subforum and the main forum used to be the same way, until, I believe, Commerce Heights thankfully worked to correct them. As for the smilies, it's been on the list of things that I want to get done, but it's something that I'm going to have to pull out Photoshop to try to deal with at some point.

I whipped up a version of those two static ones that you linked where the border is removed; when I get home from work (good use of my lunch break XD), I would be more than happy to try and do it for the rest of the static smiles, though the animated ones would take a bit more time :P
If you ever have an RPing question, please TG me about it.

I'd like to bump this thread, as those borderless smilies would be great to see implemented.

I know there's been a bit of a delay around these parts (and a delay in me actually telling people about it), but the default static (non-gif) smilies were replaced with the ones that United Gordonopia provided.

Yes they were! Thank you to United Gordonopia for creating them and to Northrop-Grumman for packaging them!

I hope to see this issue remedied, the site would look a lot nicer if this was fixed.

It already has been fixed, as per the posts above. If you're still seeing jagged-border smilies in Dark theme, try F5-ing the page, because your browser is probably holding the old graphics in its cache.

It's been fixed for the static smilies (except for  it looks like - refreshing, etc. haven't updated it to the new one, and the other static ones are fine), but not the animated ones.

Awesome to see those implemented! Happy to help, though sorry I never got around to the animated ones. Perhaps when I have a lot of time, since they take a lot more work for obvious reasons :P

Thanks again! And that's alright!
