Island Union wrote:Question regarding the Recruiting Campaigns that you have in this awesome tool.

I am a Recruitment officer for my region, does any telegram that my nation sends as "Recruitment", that is reported to the Recruitment Campaigns?

Can you explain how that works? Or direct me to a post that would? Please and thank you!

When recruitment officers are online, NS++ makes one call per 3 minutes (roughly) to the API with the telegram and key info that is put into the recruitment tool. That's because the telegram API rate limit is one message every 180 seconds.

If you send additional recruitment telegrams, either manually or using stamps, they are not reported through the recruitment campaign breakdown because they aren't sent by NS++ through the API, even if you use the same telegram template.

I'm curious, why does NS++ still link to the NSWiki.net address rather than the NSWiki.org? Also...why can't we choose our own source?

You are not authorized to reset the regional titles

I've had my region for 4 days and still get this error. I get this under chrome and firefox. I also can't found the newspaper, and I can't add a map. What is going on?

Two new glitches found.

1. There are now two challenge icons. One made by the extension, and one made by the game.

Suggested solution: Remove the icon.

2. The wiki, associated with NS++, links to a tracker that no longer exists, which it uses for many of its stats. This results in errors.

Suggested solution: Calculate the stats using the wiki, if possible. Should the formulas be too complex to implement, remove references to them. In addition, remove now defective links.

Not new, and is fixed on my end.

EDIT FROM THE FUTURE: I see the problem exists on all nations not your own, I stand corrected.

Should show up as local, via NS++, IIRC. Update runs from 12 am/pm to between about 1 and 1:15 pm/am EST (UTC-5 without DST). If the values are within that, then it's in EST. If the value is, say, 9:54:34, then it's in local time. It's hard for me to check that out for you, living in EST :P

When viewing your own page, there is only one symbol, created by the extension.

When viewing anyone else's page, the game generates one as well.

I have about 75 puppets on my puppet switcher. So, with this new Rift theme, the page does not allow me to scroll all the way down like Century allows. Rift will stop at about puppet number 44 and it will not allow me to scroll any further.

Is there a fix, or do I have to continue using Century?

I've just put the puppets I want on Rift in the visible range, and the rest plus at least one I can see in Century. Switch to the one with century, and then you can scroll to the rest.

I did file a bug report about this all the way back in Beta, but, like the rest of them...... little fixed yet.

When I use NS++ with Century, part of my Overview page looks weird. Some of the links are in a different colour, and they are a bit too close to the WA Member badge.

Is there anything that could be done about this?

As previously predicted, there will be some downtime of NS++ shortly.

I expect the downtime to begin within 12 hours and last for 4-24 hours (depending on DNS). I will note here again when it begins, at which time I should also be better able to predict how long NS++ will be down for. It is possible that for some users, NS++ will effectively go down twice, and there will be no single moment for everyone when it becomes available again.

NS++ is being moved to servers owned by NationStates. There is an urgent deadline involved which is the expiration of the current SSL certificate used by NS++ on afforess' servers 17 hours from now.

The size of the NS++ database is the first reason why there will be a noticeable downtime: the database is 11 gigabytes as text (1.3 gigabytes compressed). This takes a considerable time to transfer. While it is being transferred, no changes should be made to the copy on the original server, as they would be lost, and no use can be made of the new server.

The second reason is that it takes time to propagate DNS changes. The change in DNS of nationstatesplusplus.net from 162.243.18.247 to the new IP address could take some time to reach everyone. While the old site can be configured to forward requests to the new one, this won't help with the expiring SSL certificate: anyone still attempting to access the old site by https more than 17 hours from now will not succeed. There are ways for end users to get around this (hosts file or security exception), but not very convenient ones.

The downtime begins now. It should take about 3 hours.

I do wonder how UPS is supposed to deliver anything anywhere in less than 3 hours. Regardless, 3 hours is hopefully a pessimistic estimate, based on a worst-case scenario. At the current rate the data transfer should be done considerably sooner.

Same Day delivery services. I can generally get a large amount of data transferred by hand than I can via ethernet. The larger the amount of data the more efficient it is to do it by hand. Even more efficient if it's short distance. I can transfer 2TB of data from my upstairs computer to my downstairs computer much faster by taking the hdd out and plugging into the downstairs computer than I can by using my ultra highgrade ethernet cable (I was determined that my internet would not be slowed down by internal networking).

https://what-if.xkcd.com/31/

Bearing in mind that I can carry that 13GB on a USB stick, I can travel (in most parts of the world) up to 200 miles and still get it to the server before that upload time of three hours... (75mph being the utmost speed limit) and that's just by car. If I hop on a plain...hoo boy.

The data transfer is fast. Like 10 minutes fast. The extra time is for ensuring that the brand new servers come online.

For the curious, Eluvatar is migrating the NS++ data to brand new servers that are operated by Max, and not me.

Well that makes far more sense. ^-^

Do we still get the API interface or am I actually going to have to make one?

As far as I am aware, there are no plans to make any changes to how NS++ works, the transfer is just a transfer in control.

Physical delivery would have been the appropriate solution if NS++'s database was multiple terabytes in size. Thankfully, it is not.

The limiting factor in this case is not the bandwidth.

For those of you who see everything working, but also still have a shiny red "NS++ Downtime" alert in the upper right hand corner: the alerts are cached for an hour by the NS++ extension, so you should expect that alert to go away within an hour.

From various observations it looks to me like most residential networks have already gotten the new site's IP, but some webhosts and such may have the old IP cached still in some places. This too should resolve itself fairly soon.
