Sorry, meant that the extension is now primarily a gameplay tool than one that non-gameplayers would use much. Those who use the forums more than the game have little to gain from NS++ than before, unless of course they have a crapload of roleplaying puppets or really need the "Ignore Forum Topic" function. Previously, we had the ad block and Roleplay News to keep us using the extension.

Now, I can't stand using it as a forumer simply because I remember what it used to be.

*shrugs* Maybe I am irrational. But I'm not using NS++ until it incorporates something that makes up for the loss of those two features.

Hi, maybe I can help explain why those two features were removed and perhaps you can contribute some ideas towards fixing/restoring them.

1.) The ad-blocking was removed because it is a conflict of interest. NationStates now owns NationStates++, so it makes no sense for the admins to give players a free way to opt-out of ads, competing with the in-game store. I personally use an adblocker now.

2.) The roleplay and gameplay newspapers aren't gone, but they did get "delisted" from the sidebar. The main reason for this is that it also seemed a conflict of interest. NationStates admins effectively owning/running both those papers creates an unhealthy bias which seemed complicated to solve. Before, when I was the administrator for NationStates++ I could review articles and ensure content was permissable and the newspapers would remain a 3rd party news-source, outside of the admins control. But now, that is not the case. Either I am forcing the moderators to take a task they never signed on for - to monitor and maintain the two global newspapers, or I close them down.

I am interested, when the time is available, in looking into what to do to reinstate or replace the Gameplay and Roleplay news tabs.

One possibility might be to have users categorize Dispatches into these categories and pull them in dynamically, but there are a number of uncertainties involved.

Perhaps instead hire new people to moderate the newspapers.

Could you please describe your problem in more detail?

What exactly do you expect to see, and where? What browser are you using? What version of the extension?

Whenever I leave the forum, the regional news sidebar link thing goes away. What happened there?

My regions NS++ Recruitment won't work. There is no recruitment tab on the main region page nd none of my recruitment officers can recruit.
Also, I can no longer see the WA Proposals tab.

Just thought I'd point out for the billionth time that NS++ looks like it's down or something.
Also, I think the WA Proposals link hasn't been appearing since Z-Day. Gets kind of annoying not having it.

NS++ was partly down today. The infrastructure responsible has been replaced, and NS++ is back up.

Again, since no one payed attention last time, when I attempt to install it in the Chrome App Store, it says CHECKING... for a while, and then a pop up appears that says NETWORK FAILED, and I can reload the page or close it, but it never installs or changes. The same thing always happens over and over again.

When I try to get onto the 'Settings' page for NS++, it seems to load for a long time. It used to load quickly, but now it doesn't. However, other NS++ things work. The problem is mainly at the settings page.

This isn't something we have any control over. The chrome web store works for me, and if it is not working for you, you need to file a bug report with Google.

I agree, the way the settings page works is not ideal. I want to look into improving that for the next release, which should be soon.

Just a brief update on 2.5.1 and what changes will be coming in the next release, possibly as early as this weekend. Eluvatar and I have been working on improvements for a number of issues:

1.) Saving settings brings up a confirmation dialog box.
2.) Setting page loads significantly faster
3.) Newspaper unread article counts actually go from 0-9, * correctly, instead of the current (1) notice if there are any unread articles.
4.) (in-progress) Region Administrators will be able to edit and update IRC settings for their region in the region administration page.

We are also considering bringing back the GP/RP newspaper in the form of a dispatch aggregator, where you can check a box in your dispatch edit page, if you want it to show up in GP or RP news as an article.

Might I suggest that there could still be the old newspaper format, but you can hire moderators for it?

The primary concern is that then we need real moderators to moderator the newspaper moderators, if a situation gets out of hand.

The benefit that dispatches have is that they are already part of the game, and so anything inappropriate can already be handled by in-game GHR already. It's possible that there would still be a team of volunteer-editors for the GP/RP news, but instead they would review whether submitted dispatches are worthy of inclusion.

Hey everyone,
I was just wondering if NS++ was legit and wasn't just a scam.
Cheers,
Hackintosh

Seeing as it is now owned by NS, yes it is legit. If it wasn't I am sure the admin would have done something about it/locked this thread/given a warning.

Anyone else having the "Show WA Proposals" option checked but without it actually doing anything?
Obviously I've checked to make absolutely sure that I'm a delegate...
