New Region - Unable to Post on RMB

Postby Mediobogdum » Sat Nov 22, 2014 2:44 pm

I use NS++ and I have just founded a new region but am unable to post onto the rmb. The message box appears and I can write the posting and preview it, but it does not 'take' the message when I press the "Submit' button. Is this a matter which might resolve itself at update, or is it a software 'bug'? You can tg me for a response if you specifically need to know the name of the region.

That sounds like a bug. I'll look into it. In the mean time, you can always post from the forum view page:

Problem seems to be found and addressed. (I think NS may have changed what it includes in region pages that have empty RMBs).

Assuming you're not facing some other problem that I haven't found, your problem will be fixed in the next release which will be, ah, Very Soon.

Sseroffa wrote:Just a brief update on 2.5.1 and what changes will be coming in the next release, possibly as early as this weekend. Eluvatar and I have been working on improvements for a number of issues:

1.) Saving settings brings up a confirmation dialog box.
2.) Setting page loads significantly faster
3.) Newspaper unread article counts actually go from 0-9, * correctly, instead of the current (1) notice if there are any unread articles.
4.) (in-progress) Region Administrators will be able to edit and update IRC settings for their region in the region administration page.

We are also considering bringing back the GP/RP newspaper in the form of a dispatch aggregator, where you can check a box in your dispatch edit page, if you want it to show up in GP or RP news as an article.

Usability improvements to the NS++ settings page, newspaper unread article counts, and regional IRC settings made it into 2.5.1. Also, the re-enabling of the Roleplay News sidebar button, though at some point in the relatively near future it should be replaced with a dispatch-based system.

Just now, 2.5.1.1 got a fix to the regional IRC system and changes to how the extension handles RMBs to deal with a change in how empty RMBs are shown.

2.5.1.1 should be available for Chrome (and, indirectly, Opera) users shortly. I believe that 2.5.1.1 is available to Firefox users as well, but have not personally verified that it will update automatically.

2.5.1 is available to Safari users, but it may be a few days before 2.5.1.1 is available.

Updated the OP, following Moderation transferring it to me.

Updated changelogs and added some information to the FAQ. In particular:

Who is in charge here?
Ultimately, [violet]. Currently, Sseroffa and Eluvatar are both developing the code and operating the NS++ service which the extension relies on. All three have access to the servers which are operating nationstatesplusplus.net. Eluvatar is maintaining the Chrome App store (used also by Opera users). Eluvatar and Sseroffa both have copies of the update signing key for the Firefox extension, and either may publish updates to it. The safari extension is currently being published by Sseroffa.

How is this changing?
While these plans are not necessarily entirely set in stone, the nationstatesplusplus.net and nspostmaster.com website and services will eventually be moved to servers operated by [violet] and Eluvatar, and the ability to upload updates to the extension will follow the same shift.

PS: Version 2.5.1.1 is available through the Chrome store.

Does NS++ have anything to do with the 'new look' to the telegram inbox? Or is that just me. I must say I like the old look better.

Can I just ask...why...are my TGs...in Comic Sans?
Please refer to me as The Greater Arslanid Empire, or just the Arslanid Empire ICly. Works better.

I am, and it's a possibility. Those domains & content were acquired by NS too.

Should I make a suggest a feature post over on the other site? :P

Actually the telegrams are all in Trebuchet MS and have a color scheme that reminds me of preschool. Or some kids website.

Also, thanks for reinstating the Roleplay News, even if I can only see the link on gameside.

Okay, this hit me an hour or two after I started hearing about it from others, which was my first hint that I got it when NS++ updated, not the game :P

Anyways, confirmed it as NS++ with a disable-refresh-enable-refresh cycle. Here's the comparison between the two, showing the radically different NS++ TG box-

- Actually, I'll TG. DOn't want to put 'em here and too lazy to go crop 'em :P

Not that the new box is necessarily bad in my book, it's just a big change, with no warning, and seems to serve little purpose both in function and appearance.

Tip: If you hit "Expand All", the effect goes away. There's also an option under "Preferences" to automatically expand all TGs, though obviously it's not a long-term solution.

I just find it strange that one of the developers has no idea what we're talking about, and that certain actions make it not apply :P

Hm.

I see what you're talking about now.

This seems to be a side-effect of the addition of the 'settings saved' dialog which was done by pulling in jqueryui. This side-effect can and will be removed soon, but not tonight as I simply can't right now. Perhaps tomorrow.

No rush for me at least :P I have no head for the tech stuff, but I think you basically said adding the dialogue box for settings being saved somehow bled over to the telegrams ;) Doesn't really matter to me though :P

As a fairly complex piece of work, I don't plan to work on it until after the transfer is completed and all major bugs have been addressed.

That said, I'd be happy to take in a Pull Request containing such changes at pretty much any time.

Yes. That is what happened.

The dialogue box was added using jquery-ui, but adding jquery-ui apparently had side effects which I assume were unexpected.

Is there some way to make it so that is someone takes the delegacy of the region it doesn't just automatically start firing off recruitment TGs using their nation?

I entered Warzone Sandbox tonight, which had no delegate, and took the delegacy while doing a training mission.

Apparently they already had an NS++ recruitment campaign set up, but since I've never used NS++ recruiting it was quite a heartstopping moment when suddenly a bar at the top appeared saying that I was telegramming someone...

Perhaps if the region has no delegate or founder, any active recruitment campaigns are automatically retired? That way you don't end up sending telegrams you had no idea would be going from your account.

Pretty sure they don't come from your account, they come from the nation that set up the TG (the one that sent the tag:api telegram). My random irrelevant puppet that I foolishly applied for an API key with is the one that gets the replies from my recruitment campaign instead of the nation that I actually see more than once a year. :P

API Templates are received as being sent from the nation which created the template.

I will think about changing the recruitment system to not automatically consider Delegates and Founders to be recruitment officers, but I think it's more useful than inconvenient 99% of the time.

That little quirk is really only an issue in founderless regions vulnerable to WA upheaval anyways.

One question: if a user creates a script of his or her own, sending can be done 24/7 without having a browser open. Why was it considered necessary for an NS++ enabled browser to be logged into a recruitment officer account for it to send telegrams? Just to reduce load on the telegram queue? Just curious -- not going to advocate for its change anytime soon.

Because the API rate limits do not allow one program to make API requests more often than they allow one API key to do so.

NS++ recruitment officers have NS++ making the actual API requests.

I'm having some problems here, I don't know if its on my end or not, but I used to have NS++ installed, but suddenly it sort of disappeared entirely. And when I try to download it again, it says there is a connection problem.
Image

I use Firefox. I also tried to download it from the actual NS++ site, but got the same error.
I also use Avast Antivirus, so maybe that could be tampering with it?
Any help is appreciated.
