How much money does Microsoft save buy outsourcing to Symantec?

That's hardly a topic to ask a Nationstates administrator about :p

I have a Hotmail account and I've sent my application like a thousand times but still, nothing pops out. Is NS still blocked in Hotmail?

Yes. Not sure when that will be cleared up, but hopefully soon.

Gmail should work - and be sure to check the spam folder, too, if it's not in your inbox. (And if you find it in the spam folder, please mark it as 'Not Spam.')

I also had a Hotmail account that blocked the applications. I have discovered a site(email) that will let you generate a free account that does not block the emails sent from the servers: Mail.com.
Please forgive me if this is game illegal for posting a "link" to another site, but this is an effort to provide players with an alternate email for the purpose of joining the WA.

I generated an account in seconds and received a reply in less than 5 minutes!

There are hundreds of similar email hosts that work equally well. We usually recommend Gmail.com, as the folks at Google don't seem to share the patronizing attitude you'll find at Microsoft-branded email providers. Plus it's very full featured and easy to use.

Yup. MSN (and Hotmail, and Outlook, etc.) don't like NS emails right now. As suggested elsewhere in this thread, using a Gmail account, for example, is more likely to be successful. (it may still end up in your spam folder, though)

I am in the same boat as most people here, hotmail hates anything not microsoft...

There is a feedback tool within Hotmail and Outlook, i have used that to send them a short request to stop blocking NS from sending me email. maybe if enough people request the same they will listen better?

There's a similar tool for website admins, and we've been following their procedures repeatedly. They're just an idiotic and painfully slow bureacracy, so our complaints don't seem to be filtering down.

Please - send your feedback. Your results can't be any worse than ours.

Bunch of emails just got delayed. They'll go out soonish, but if you're wondering where one is, that's why. Part of a transition to a new mail provider.

My emails have been showing up again in Hotmail for some time- but only WA emails, and not inactivity warnings. Any idea what's up with that, or is that something on my end user settings I've borked?

That explains why the dozen WA applications I sent in about 12 hours ago haven't showed up yet :P

That's probably just Hotmail being weird. Microsoft is the worst ISP I have to deal with: everything with them is slow and difficult and half the time they say one thing and do another.

I am interested in hearing whether the email situation improves starting from now, though. We're paying Mandrill.com to deliver email for us.

So this might very well explain why I haven't gotten the forgotten password emails yet? Although I still question why I have gotten the WA telegrams whereas I have not gotten the others. How long do you guys hink it will take to correct this?

Everything should be working perfectly fine now. You only get a "forgotten password" email, though, if you correctly remember the email address for the nation you're trying to access.

I have but every time I entered it I haven't received anything as of yet. Is it possible that you guys could reset the password manually? I am sorry for continuing to bother you guys about this but I have entered the email address multiple times and still haven't received anything.

Okay, so quite a few "Forgotten Password" emails definitely won't going out. A bug has been fixed. If you've had trouble getting a "Forgotten Password" email, please try again.

Note however that you do need to get the nation name and email address exactly right in order to generate a password recovery email.

Thanks for the report. I see that error occurring to half a dozen different people over the last week. I've added some more logging to track down what's happening.
