Yes, this is the case. The site runs plenty of (paid) ads for other games, including Democracy, and this is fine. But we don't allow people to go around creating threads or posting links to advertise their game. We tell them to buy an ad.

This is most definitiely NOT a factor. If we block certain ads, other ads will replace them. The tiny amount of money we get from ads to support server costs will not be affected.

Max is not the sort of person to put aside his concerns for the players of this site for a few bucks, and I'm ashamed of you for suggesting it.

I'm not sure where to post this but an ad that I don't think is appropriate for nationstates is showing up right now.

The ad says:
"This site contains explicit images of someone you know"

And is advertising for:

"russianbrides.com"

Here is the picture the ad uses: "http://cdn.adnxs.com/p/85/7c/86/a8/857c86a864b16758072364083fe014dc.jpg"

I don't believe a site advertising explicit images of "someone I know" is appropriate for a pg-13 website.

Fris, I'm really sorry, but I don't think I can blame anyone for suggesting things like that:

We are surrounded, on all four sides, by a Berlin Wall of cash registers. Max Barry's "cash register" is just a little tin dish, with a cardboard sign reading: "Take a penny. Leave a penny." It is so hard to notice that humble dish and piece of cardboard from all the other surgical-steel cash registers trying to suck one's money into their drawers, that one could not be blamed for thinking "All X are Y"...

I remember playing RuneScape, and in my final couple of years of playing it... If I clicked a wrong button, I would immediately be redirected to a monthly subscription purchase page. Same happened, and continues to happen, with many, many other games...

I'm sorry, but I simply cannot blame Nickel Empire, or anyone else, for thinking that... I'm sorry...

Hoping this doesn't count as gravedig...

Not exactly inappropriate, but their's a first choice advert coming up advertising holidays. Unfortunately, it contains most everything someone using a screen reader can use to move around a page (list boxes, edit boxes, headings.) If you work on automatic (pressing a few keys because you know that's how it works without really listening properly) as most people using screen readers do on familiar sites, I can easily end up on a travel agents website. Is their a possibility we can get rid of this?

An add I've seen a lot lately is the one which you find alot on the Net,
It has:
'ONCE YOU JOIN, YOUR FRIENDS WON'T BE SEEING MUCH OF YOU'. It contains the picture of a scantily clad cartoon women dressed in some sort of medieval armour.

Also another one is the add for CharmingDating.com which advertises that you can view 'hot Russian singles'. I'm pretty sure this breaches a few guidelines.

It's from first choice, a travel agents in the UK. It talks about your 'perfect holiday' and has text and edit boxes in to select options.

Developer creates rip-off game designed to extract cash from players' wallets
Developer offers referral money to anyone who can bring in players
Dozens/hundreds/thousands of people independently create accounts to advertise the game under different names on various ad networks
We try to block them one by one

If you can tell me the name of the game I'll see if I can find it.

We have one ad for them at the moment but there is no mention of hot Russian singles... it might have been pulled.
