Ardchoille wrote:So, if you can't see the colours on the "warn" tags, is there anything we can do with formatting the type itself -- eg, this sort of thing:

*** W_A_R_N_E_D *** for polyhymnia

... or is that just going to cause more problems for your screen reader?

(Not that you'll need to see warn tags for your good self, of course, but why should you miss out on the fun of seeing some miscreant go down in flames? :p )

Can I suggest you go with:
Code: Select all
[warn]***WARNED***[/warn] for polyhymnia

Something like that anyway. The *** really adds a nice exclamation and significance to the message. I don't think the bold, underline italic is necessary unless you just like it. :)
The underscors don't work well because underlines break the read. It's good to actually hear the word WARN.

Now with luck I didn't earn myself a warning for quoting a warning.
;)

Sadly I need to back it out again, as it caused a problem in some older browsers. But I should be able to fix that, and restore the H tags.

Restored, along with a hack to keep Firefox 3 happy. Please let me know of any problems!

And I think national affairs was a good choice. I could see how 2 gameplays could get annoying.

I'm slightly concerned that 'National Affairs' will result in people thinking their roleplays (factbooks, embassies etc.) should go in the Gameplay or Got Issues forum - but I guess that's something we can watch for.

Perhaps "Diplomacy" could be made "Diplomacy and National Affairs" and rename "National Affairs" to "Gameside Affairs?"

Perhaps these changes could avoid potential RPing trouble. I don't know. I would think the proposed names could be more accurate in description.

2 Things
  • I agree with Sedge on that point. Probably won't end well for thread posting. Maybe a little thing like ("Game Side Issues/stuff") next to it?
  • The Font is horrendous.
Just know when it's real and when it isn't.

Well from an accessibility standpoint, it rocks.

Search page works perfectly too.

I hope the aesthetics work out so that the changes stay in. I can move around the forum a thousand times faster than before.

That's great to know! I haven't heard any complaints. The changes should be invisible to the sighted.

Fabulous. I really appreciate it.
Before this change the forum was a chore.

Maybe I'll start a region to try and make a centralized discussion point for blind / vision impaired users so the word can get out.

Oh man, NOT national affairs. Please :(
We suggested something with game because it handles gameside stuff. Gameplay has more to do with regional politics, raiding and defending, feeder politics, region ads....and yes, also nation stats stuff and the issue forum is that.

Can we please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please have a different name than national affairs?

Actually, I never paid attention to those tiny words marking forum names. I pay closer attention to the sub-forum names, since they're bigger and easily point out to where "what thread goes where" kind of deal.

1x1 transparent pixel added to the bottom of all pages which will set best accessibility settings for screen-readers. (Right now, this just changes the theme to Antiquity.)

Salusa, is this something you've added or are suggesting, because I can't locate any such pixel at this stage.

Also ideally, it would be next to the NationStates logo so that it's the second thing a accessibility user would come across.

Always appreciating anything that you guys do for us,

C.

It's part of game pages. It doesn't appear to be on the forum pages.

Code: Select all
</div>  <div id="accessiblitylink">
    <a href="/cgi-bin/set_accessible.cgi?type=screen_reader&amp;chk=JGpmQeLxxxxtA"><img src="/images/1x1_transparent.gif" width="1px" height="1px" alt="Switch to best theme for screen-readers" title="Switch to best theme for screen-readers"></a>

Okay, some feedback:
The pixel is indeed present when the user is logged in. It would be good to have the pixel present for individuals that are not logged in or are in nation creation.

The pixel would be better placed towards the top of the page, ideally as the first thing clicable on the page. Most accessibility users won't read all the way to the last line of the page and may never know it's present.

Cheers guys.
