It's this one :)

Apparently Lenyo got his way versus Sanctaria. (For what it's worth, I agree with Lenyo.)

What?

I think he may have meant Sedgistan rather than Sanctaria, re: cutting the 4th option.

You can build a moon cannon, or get kidnapped by a mad scientist. Our villains are about as super as they can get for a character that only appears in one issue.

...So maybe that's what our next issue chain is going to be about...

Oh, and let's not forget #385 option 2: an increasingly villainous series of sports coaches are demanding the national mascot's true identity.

#374 has a new option.
1. "Look at @@NAME@@'s children: fat, lazy, dumb, and unsuccessful," says the book's author @@RANDOMMALENAME@@. "Now look at my two girls. Attending top colleges! Lawyer and doctor! Making a difference with their lives! Making good money with their lives! It takes iron discipline, regular beatings, and the sacrifice of their childhoods, and I might not remember their names every once in a while, but who cares about that when I can brag about my boys - I mean girls."

2. "Poor babies," wails concerned mother @@RANDOMFEMALENAME@@, clutching her teenage son tight to her bosom. "That book suggests the most awful punishments - hit our children, starve them, make them do their homework. The worst thing I ever did to my cupcake was give him a little gold star for trying his best. I suggest we ban this book and while we are at it, lengthen the school holidays so I can take my huggle-bug to Mr Happy's Funland again."

3. "It's not my fault," yawns exhausted warehouse operative and father of four @@RANDOMMALENAME@@, after returning from a double shift, "All I ever learned at school was how to calculate a hypotenuse and how an oxbow lake is formed. Why not teach young @@DEMONYMNOUNPLURAL@@ some useful life skills like raising kids, getting a job, and coping with the daily grind of life? It's all they have to look forward to, after all." He immediately falls asleep on the couch.

4. "Lion dad?" queries @@RANDOMMALENAME@@, grasping his young son under one arm, while feeding a ferocious @@ANIMAL@@ from the other. "That's actually just what our kids need these days - a taste of the wild. All newborn children should be left in the wilderness to fend for themselves. The strong and resourceful will survive to better our nation, and the weak... well at least the @@ANIMALPLURAL@@ won't go hungry."
I'm confused about what Mr. 3 is claiming isn't his fault.

It's in response to option #1 which is blaming parents for their upbringing of children. Now I look at it, potentially options #2 and #3 would work better with their order switched.

I hope you'll all forgive the self-reporting, but it's nice to see your (fake) name in print! Issue #436:

1 ₦ANOTECH DOLLAR
The Makhnovia Leader
VOL. 32 NO. 436 CITY FINAL
MONDAY JUNE 22, 2015
Voters, Place Your Bets!

The Issue

In response to a news story about a casino oddsmaker using offshore betting lines to perfectly predict Sierra Lyricalia's last set of election results, interested parties have wrangled their way into your office to bicker about what to do with this potential prediction tool.

The Debate

"Have you no decency whatsoever?" thunders @@RANDOMNAME@@, the Violetist demiarchwizard of @@CAPITAL@@, before anyone else can say a word. "Even if gambling WEREN'T a mortal sin, the democratic process will fail under such a mighty burden! You must outlaw gambling on elections. Card games are one thing, but this is gambling with the very future of @@NAME@@! Oh, and we should crack down on those sinful casinos while we're at it."

Accept

"Now, there's no reason to get excited," soothes @@RANDOMNAME@@, the @@NAME@@ Commissioner of Elections. "We can use this in a nice, boring, I mean safe, kind of way. Why don't we take bets on elections like bookmakers would take bets on @@DEMONYM@@ Pharoah in the @@CAPITAL@@ Derby? If the Election Commission runs all the action, we'll keep out the riff-raff AND put a little extra cash in our domestic budgets."

Accept

"Legalized gambling on ALL votes would be real sweet for our little thing-- uh, for the economy," confides @@RANDOMMALENAME@@, an unindicted co-conspirator in the trial of notorious mobster Maxine "The Octopus" Barryotti. "Folks should be allowed to make a little somethin' when their favorites win, am I right? More jobs, more civic participation! And just between you and me, we could really clean up." He nudges you with his elbow, glances around, and continues quietly, "Some candidates might just be headed for a fall, know what I mean?"

Am I the only one who thinks that the game has been overusing Violetism a bit lately?

It was originally introduced as a religion that mandates human sacrifice, and while it's diversified a little, it's almost always been characterized as a dangerous extremist religion.

Opposing gambling (not even killing gamblers or forbidding home games with gambling elements, just shutting down casinos) and supporting democracy are pretty mainstream religious beliefs, more suited to @@FAITH@@.

(Note: I don't consider characters swearing in the name of Violet as factoring into this. Blaspheming doesn't imply actual religious belief, and in fact most serious religious people tend to frown on that kind of thing. I've frequently heard proclaimed atheists cursing in the name of Jesus.)

From memory the reference to Violetism was included in the original submission by the author, rather than inserted by the editors, and I kept it because I liked the "demiarchwizard" detail, which couldn't have been kept with a switch to @@FAITH@@. There were also people complaining that the references to Violetism had become too cliche and that Violetists were always being violent extremists. Can't please everyone all the time.

So true. To make Violetism seem less contradictory, I imagine it as a big world religion with sects holdings completely different views. To take the RCC as an example, there's a big difference between the Inquisition and Liberation Theology.

Um, I believe that issue 221 has an update due to all the complaints because I got issue 221 again (fourth or fifth time now) and it has another option. Anyway, here's the full issue, and no I didn't put in all the macros.

Issue #221: Outdated Tax Code Crushing @@NAME@@?

The Issue

Over the years, the government's tax code has become a headache-inducing tangle. Recently a prominent tax official was crushed to death under the weight of a complete copy of the tax code falling on his head. With taxes higher than ever, an unlikely alliance of taxpayers, businesses, and government officials are demanding something be done to fix the situation.

The Debate

"We've got to put a stop to this before more lives are lost, like mine!" says George W. Chen, the new head of the Eais Bchian Revenue Agency, indicating the search and rescue crew armed with paper shredders. "We need to abandon the current tax code and start anew. It's drastic, I know, and will mean chaos in the bureaucracy and force all government spending to be abolished while we work out the details of the new system, but at least the people could enjoy a tax break!"

Accept

"It's true that something has got to be done about the tax code, but it doesn't need to be an all-or-nothing decision!" proclaims Roxanne Patel, spokesperson of the Alliance of Eais Bchian Businesses and Industry. "Just ditch bloated government programs entirely like welfare, health, education and all the others, and give everybody a tax break. Just make sure you leave those business subsidies alone, alright? After all, we need all the help we can get to remain competitive without sacrificing people's jobs!"

Accept

"If anything is bloated about the taxes and how our money is spent, it's that corporate welfare!" rages Tobias Fellow, a concerned and rather irate citizen. "If you ask me, the government needs to eliminate all subsidies for businesses, whether private or state-owned! Cut the average guy a tax break, and keep the programs that benefit the people, not industry bigwigs!"

Accept

"Er, hi there, sir," pipes up Fanny Clinton, clad in a high-vis jacket and clutching a clipboard. "None of these fine people have got to the root of your problem. If civil servants were just to wear hard hats while working, then falling paperwork wouldn't be an issue. And perhaps a course on manual handling wouldn't go amiss too?"

Accept

edit: What does the fourth option do exactly? I have a feeling it might effect safety, but I want to know if it negatively will affect the economy. I'm not going to destroy my economy again, so is that option an option to please the complaints, or does it do the similar effects the other ones do?

Encountered one that's not on the list today, looks like Golgothastan is the author!

A Working Class Hero Is Something To Be
The Issue

The quarterly production reports show that a worker from Northern Teksi, Alenyo Stackemup, has mined more unobtainium ore than all the other workers in his district combined, leading to questions about how the state should recognize such spectacular industriousness.

The Debate

1. "Comrade Stackemup is truly setting a fine example to the workers of Teksi!" enthuses the invariably optimistic Minister of Industry, Hack O, "Clearly we should be rewarding such commitment to the cause. If we increase his ration allowance and give him a nicer state apartment to live in, the other workers will be motivated to match his output. Of course we'll need a big promotion campaign to get everyone pumped up, but it'll pay off with a new age of economic productivity!"

2. "You're forgetting our revolutionary ideals," interjects the more idealistic Minister of Resources, Rosalia Anderson. "From each according to his ability - to each according to his NEED. Comrade Stackemup doesn't need any more rations than any other miner, and building socialism is its own reward. Giving special treatment to workers who produce more will only lead us down the slippery slope back to capitalist exploitation."

3. "I actually think we have a bigger problem than that," says the perpetually suspicious Minister of Internal Affairs, Jacob Chicago. "Have you really looked at the numbers his district has claimed? According to their report, Stackemup's production level was OVER 9000! That's just not possible: no one could humanly shift that much unobtainium. They're obviously falsifying the data. We need to eliminate such corruption with a thorough audit of the whole sector, and in the meantime, don't go making an example of Stackemup and his supposed achievements: we'll all end up embarrassing ourselves."
