''World Assembly Woes''

Postby Copenhagen Metropolis » Tue Dec 18, 2012 2:57 pm

Just noticed this issue for the first time.
Just wondering if option 1 will actually result in your nation resigning from the World Assembly?
If that's the case, it's certainly a new aspect to issues...working that way.

We don't tell people the effects of issues.

But what I will say is that, as in all issues, if the text hints at something, chances are it's likely to be effected.

No, I don't generally expect you to either, but it's just that this issue is different from any other issue I've ever encountered.
But alright, I'll just refrain from answering it.

Thanks.

Fair enough.

You could also post the issue in the Issue Spoilers thread and then wait a few days/weeks/months to see if anyone else gets it and how they respond and the effect of their decisions.

Just don't start a discussion in the thread. It's just for issue text spoilers only. But it'll draw people's attention to it and maybe they'll be able to help you with your choice.

Unless there's been something of a U-turn on policy in terms of the effects of issues, without having seen the issue at hand, my guess would that it would be impossible for an issue to actually cause your nation to change its WA status.

None at present

If I ask a question on a proposed issue thread, then it's because I feel it's one you need to ask of your issue: I'm being Socratic and/or lazy.

As far as I was aware, there was a general rule that issues wouldn't change user-manipulated information such as names, titles, flags, etc. I presume that WA attendance was part of that...?

Not sure if it goes here but,

5 hours ago: Following new legislation in The Holy Dominion of Inesea, dozens of additional foreign policy specialists have been sent to the country’s WA Mission.

The ending does not seem right.

No such rule exists. We also have issues which unlock user-adjustable fields.

Though I can assure you that an issue which causes a nation to JOIN the WA isn't in the plans.

This is a terrible idea. You can't spring surprise effects on players, especially if they are relying on WA membership for GP objectives -- i.e., they are a delegate or they are providing vital support for a delegate. If something changes a nation's stats unexpectedly, that's fine. It does not affect players' GP abilities. Even if an issue opens up new Settings fields, it does not affect the player's power. But if a player is dumb enough not to read an issue carefully -- or assume that the issue text should not be taken literally -- and a region ends up losing its delegate as a result -- should the entire region be forced to pay for the mistakes of one errant issue-answerer?

Besides, people resign in the face of destructive new legislation all the time. Why especially would nations want to resign because of the effects of hypothetical legislation? That's no fun.

The text states very clearly that the result is resigning from the WA.

I decided to do it just for the hell of it to see if it would actually resign me. It did. A minute later I was back in the WA. It's not that big a deal.

Perhaps not for you, but imagine if a delegate answered this without knowing the consequences. I like this idea, but I think it's poorly introduced. I'm not aware of any other issue that effects a nation's WA status in such a way, perhaps we should have gotten players used to the idea before dropping this on them in such an unsuspecting manner? :P

Well it's a new idea, I guess. Trouble is not many people are aware that checking an issue option will result in the removal of the WA. When I select an option from the issues in my nation, I do so with the notion that my nation's policies don't always equate to how I act in gameplay. I can name a good deal of nations who don't relate to the person's style of gameplay. Personally, I can see that being a problem. I don't like the fact that issue answering is directly affecting gameplay in this case.

Also this. If someone clicks on that issue and happens to pick the 'resign from the WA' one, can they re-apply to join the WA, or does the issue trump the gameplay move?

Look two posts above yours. They said they did the issue, then reapplied to the WA right away. I looked at their nation's page and it confirms it.

Issue answering is gameplay, as is often forgotten. It was the only intended gameplay, actually.

Todd McCloud wrote:Trouble is not many people are aware that checking an issue option will result in the removal of the WA.

The issue states quite clear that the result of the issue will be resignation from the World Assembly.

This is, as far as I know, the only issue that so blatantly and explicitly states the effects of choosing it within the issue itself, and this is because this issue is far different that any been put into the game before.

Dismissing the issue completely remains a possibility, as does choosing the other option within the issue. It'll take a few weeks for people/"gameplayers" to adjust, but after that it'll just become an issue you ignore - like many other issues I'm sure.

We're not forcing people to resign, we've merely introduced the option to do it through issues. The text states quite clearly the result is resignation. We've also ensured that brand new players who join the World Assembly as soon as they join the game won't get the issue, and therefore won't understand what's going on and accidently resign themselves.

It's a new method of resigning from the World Assembly. That's it. As far as I'm aware, there are no more plans for issues to interact with the game in this way again. So it's one issue. Chill.

Thanks.

Sure. Stuff like this is why I won't be answering issues, whereas before I was picking any option.

Reading is effort, and its too much effort just to avoid accidentally resigning from the WA.
