"Freddy Zhimo of the Civil Liberties Union says "We must welcome these refugees from any nation into our open arms, they are fleeing one oppressive dictatorial regime in the only way they know, we must not let them think they're jumping from the frying pan into the fire!"

Fixed that and a couple other small things with that one. Next time please include the Issue #. Thank you.

I just got issue #147, "Military Budgets Up For Approval", when I don't even have a military.
INTP, -4.25 Economic Left/Right, -4.1 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian, tastes like chicken.
I do use NS stats, thank you very much.

If you're not spending any money on your military, them asking for increases in the budget seems pretty legit.

Issue #14 is about increased spending. Issue #147 clearly presupposes the existence of a military.

Both argue about increasing spending. I don't agree with the need for a change, as I believe that one man at a border post with a gun getting no pay would count as a military getting zero funding thanks to the quirks of NationStates.

That said, I do see the point being made. I've tweaked the validity for that. It will mean less nations getting the issue. Considerably so.

Wait, there are a very large amount of nations in NationStates that don't have a military?

You learn something new every day.

Definitely tastes like a first draft.

Take it to a new thread please.

And if I'd rather defer to the editors? The primary issue is that the third option is ambiguous, not that it has bad style per se.

Perhaps I misunderstood, sorry.

When you said "tastes like a first draft" I thought you meant you were going to continue suggesting new drafts in this thread, which would not be an ideal thread for drafting. Hence the take it to a new thread.

Issue 440- "After another movie season dominated by sequels, remakes and spin-offs, cinema boffs have come to your office begging for action."

Minor pedantry: I believe the term here ought to be "buffs," given that people usually refer to cinema lovers as cinema buffs, movie buffs, film buffs and the like. A boff is short for boffin, a term which generally denotes someone of technical, scientific or possibly archaic expertise.

Issue #381, Option 1

"He's just a poor boy from a poor family!" pleads Larry Falopian, youth welfare activist and rock fan appearing on Culture of Life's most popular morning show. "Spare him his life from this monstrosity! The government must not try teens as adults. In fact, you really can't try them at all; they clearly don't understand the magnitude of their actions. Maybe if our government gave schools more funding, the teachers could explain this "don't murder" concept a little better."

As a quote within a quote, "don't murder" should be changed to 'don't murder.'

"Following new legislation in Tonosia, train stations can be 'armful places."
I believe this was Issue 352, option 2. I'm not certain what that effect line is supposed to say, but it doesn't look like it's correct.
If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless. Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you. | Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’

It's a 'orrible pun. Don't worry 'bout it. 'appens to be deliberate.

When picking option 2 on #441 I got the effect "epipen sales have skyrocketed". It took me a second or two to get that, because I'm used to it being written "EpiPen". So, nothing wrong really, just an observation. Maybe it's that way because effect lines are never capitalized?

If it's a brand name, it should be either capitalized as the company owning the brand spells it, or replaced with a genericized equivalent.

Hadn't even given it a second thought. Corrected the capitalization.

typo #441

Postby Baconbacon123 » Mon Jul 20, 2015 10:19 pm

in issue #441 "you've got a friend in bee"

Honeybee populations have been deceasing at an alarming rate, according to a recent study published in Not That Popular Science magazine. Experts have swarmed your office demanding you take action or face catastrophic consequences.
I'm not sure if it's supposed to say deceasing or decreasing.

Issue Number 437 - Blue Screen Of Economic Death, Option 3:
"More regulations? Bah! Hasn't the government already proven that it doesn't know what it's doing?" questions Microcosm CEO Ella Rubin. "Such a large project as currency digitalization is clearly a job for a multinational corporation, like say Microcosm. We can outsource the data storage to other countries where the labor costs are lower, and then your precious currency data will be far, far away from any domestic problem and much, much closer to SNAFU's in Marche Noir. No downsides!"
Why's there an apostrophe after SNAFU?
