Flag Thief Returns!

Postby Flag Thief » Fri Oct 08, 2010 2:26 pm

Greetings, everyone.

Not sure who of you remember me, there should be some thread on the old forum, but never mind that.

I am the Flag Thief, and I enjoy stealing the flags of influential players in this game. I have stolen many flags already in the past, and to begin, I will give you a blast from the past by publishing some of the old TGs I have left on this nation. Note, if anyone has a problem with his or her TG being published, let me know and I'll remove it.

That's quite the collection of TG's from some rather (in)famous players.
It's ok! You can trust me! I've been Commended!

Kandarin just retired and handed his nation over to another player (Naivetry) - so he's not around in NS any more.

Well, judging by Sedgistan's link, it would seem Naivetry is in the spotlight.

And what better than to steal the flag of one who is in the spotlight?

So, ladies and gentlemen, today's victim is...Naivetry!

It's a flag that actually looks like a flag, and perhaps Naivetry will come here and tell us how she got this or who made it.

Tomorrow her flag will be returned, but for now...it is mine!

If I may make a suggestion: now that regions have flags, perhaps you can start stealing those too?

Flag Thief wrote:It's a flag that actually looks like a flag, and perhaps Naivetry will come here and tell us how she got this or who made it.

I made it within a day or two of joining the game, after deciding that cutting and pasting jpgs of ducks onto a blue background really looked awful. I've been meaning to write down the symbolism behind it, but I still haven't figured out some things. The combination of the cross and the circle comes in part from G.K. Chesterton:

"As we have taken the circle as the symbol of reason and madness, we may very well take the cross as the symbol at once of mystery and of health. Buddhism is centripetal, but Christianity is centrifugal: it breaks out. For the circle is perfect and infinite in its nature; but it is fixed for ever in its size; it can never be larger or smaller. But the cross, though it has at its heart a collision and a contradiction, can extend its four arms for ever without altering its shape. Because it has a paradox in its centre it can grow without changing. The circle returns upon itself and is bound. The cross opens its arms to the four winds; it is a signpost for free travellers."

That whole chapter is amazing. Then there are twelve rays for the twelve tribes of Israel and/or the twelve disciples... and the rest I feel ought to mean something, but I just had vague ideas about a physical/spiritual or temporal/eternal dichotomy. I'm sure that's way more information than anyone wanted to know, but there it is. :P

Actually, it is nice to see someone putting actual thought into their flag's design :)

Naivetry, your flag has been returned and we thank you for letting us steal it.

Krulltopia suggested I could also steal region flags now, so to thank him..

I have stolen the flag of The Pacific!

Thank you flag thief.

A little bit of history on the current flag. The original NPO flag and the thread it originated in can be found here. The newest iteration was made by Thel D'Ran and was a melding of the oldest flag, and included the fist that was on the now old Pacific Army flag, dating from around Pierconium's reign.

Thank you for adding that, Krulltopia, your region's flag has been returned to it's rightful place, waving above the Pacific region.

Today's victim is the nation who managed to reply to my thread first. He's the founder of invader region Lone Wolves United: Evil Wolf!

Truly an honor.

The creation flag I fly today has been attributed to the original founder of Lone Wolves United, Scardino. Although, no one really knows if he actually created the flag itself or just simply stole it from someone with more creative talent than he possessed. One thing is for sure my flag (the Khan's flag) has become instantly identifiable with Lone Wolves United.

Thank you, Evil Wolf, I've quite enjoyed my stay in your region, and also my little visit to the 10k Islands.

But because of recent events, I have decided on a new victim:

Durkadurkiranistan II

As you may or may not know, the Delegate of the North Pacific has gone on an ejection spree. Opinions on this course of action differ from outrage to celebration. Us? We're simply admiring the very cute kittenflag.

*awakens from hibernation*

Greetings, good people of NationStates! Returning to you once again...The Flag Thief!

Today's victim is someone who's name has been mentioned several times both onsite and offsite: Unibot!
Well, not exactly Unibot, since that's not possible, but we managed to find his WA nation through many hours of research and shady men in alleys with sunglasses giving us intell...of the course the name helped as well: Unibotian WA Mission

Perhaps Unibot will be kind enough to tell us where he got his flag from?

As a sidenote: please don't discuss recent events here, I'd like to keep this thread open..

Heh. It's an honor to have my flag stolen. :P

My flag and name (or old name, alas), was from a school play I wrote and did some of the artwork for, "Unibot" was a stepford-esque land where everyone was forced to be what was considered perfect (happy, dumb, blonde, skinny, heterosexual).

I remembered reading that the Nazi symbol was designed by reversing the Swastika symbol for luck, the latter being the source of a lot of misfortune for me as a teenager. So I took the peace sign and reversed it, just to be cheeky, because Unibot was sort of quasi-peace (absence of conflict), it didn't deserve the peace sign, it deserved a pseudo-peace sign.

That was an unexpected story, thank you!
Of course, your flag will be returned to you tomorrow, in the mean time, I shall enjoy the blue and the reversed peace sign.
