12th February - RDF smashes 400th successful mission milestone

We wish to apologise to readers for the celebratory tone of our previous bulletin as the RDF reached 50 missions in 25 days. That feat seems slightly underwhelming several days on as the RDF has completed a staggering 31 successful operations in the last few days.

Whilst these last few days have seen some great commitment from senior RDF officers as well as new members of the Expeditionary Force being trained and mentored, one operation in particular stands out. For reasons unknown the RDF command left new recruit the Old Wildlife Pen Pals out to patrol by himself. Not undeterred by the lack of support, Corporal Pen Pals managed to perform a one-man defence of the quiet region of Loistius which marked the 400th successful RDF missions mark*. Pen Pals has now been promoted to Sergeant and awarded the Good Conduct ribbon for their commitment.

Lieutenant Colonel Numero Capitan said "it is important we recognise the efforts of individuals who have taken the initiative and maintained the commitment to make these single-man operations a success. Pen Pals' stands out as that mission was a milestone but Warrant Officer Benevolent Thomas sets the example for our new recruits and performs these types of operations on a daily basis. Many years ago I myself was awarded the AWP Cross for seizing on an operational error and performing a one-man liberation to prevent the regional destruction of Soviet Union by the New Inquisition, the native we endorsed is still Delegate there today. Neasmyrna recognised that and it is important we also recognise the careful watch individual nations keep over the most vulnerable regions in the world. We're very fortunate to have that culture and the individuals we have in our regional military."

• Sakson/White Meadow (House of Fun)
• Sedge (Guild of Merchants)

We're really excited to see how this goes as we enter the second stage of our rebuild. Fyraria has been appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs and a number of military promotions have taken place:

Out of curiosity, how does this Triumvirate work? I am not overly familiar with AWP's structure in general, but do each of these Triumvirs control certain aspects of governance or is it a wholesale rule of three in all/most areas? I always thought it would be neat to see how a long-functioning triumvirate/triarchy would be structured and work in practice within NS.

Its a new structure for us anyway so we're still working it out in many ways. We opted to go for a Constitution that leaves the system quite open for interpretation/development/evolution. Essentially the three in the Triumvirate are the elected Leaders of the three largest Houses in the region (there are currently only three anyway), the Houses can choose for themselves how they elect leaders but are largely born out of different sections of the AWP community, so a lot of people in the House of Fun are our RPers and spammers, a lot of the House of Five Zeroes are RDF members, I'm not sure exactly what unites the random group of people sedge has assembled but they want a regional economy reestablished

So naturally each House specific areas it takes some ownership over, for example I'm in the House of Fun and as a house we're being more proactive about seeking out allies beyond our natural friends and military allies that have developed through the RDF, so people we can work with on WA affairs, RP regions etc. The Triumvirate can also appoint Ministers still to take care of different activities.

Delegate Election

After over a year of serving as our World Assembly Delegate, AWPs Twenty Eighth Delegate AP3 10 has retired/died/disappeared. His term as delegate expires on 30th April and the Eighteenth Delegate of AWP, Voik has returned to the delegacy to serve in the interim as elections are held.

Nominations have opened and it appears that we're headed for a two horse race between Interim Delegate Voik and RDF Expeditionary Force member Billy5481.

RDF promotions

Thanks to promotions and veterans returning our senior officers group has grown from one to four over the last few weeks. Officers are considering a new ranking system that will allow troops to build up specialisms and will be running training operations shortly following an influx of new recruits.

The following RDF members have been promoted this month:

Deathorlife has been promoted from Senior Warrant Officer to Lieutenant
Dyr Nasad has been promoted from Master Sergeant to First Sergeant

Pen Pals has been promoted from Master Sergeant to Command Sergeant Major

Pokemon Elimination

Jigglypuff joins the fallen as the third eliminated Pokemon. Wibblefeet loses the Pokemon Elimination sweepstake as a result.

Regional RP

The region has named the region Pagos . It was decided by members that 00000 A World Power was a rather cumbersome and silly name for RP purposes and a regional vote took place to decide our IC region name. The winner was Pagos, named for its historical links to the origins of our regional founder's nation name.

AWP is in discussions with friendly regions about developing more of a world map that would enable interregional roleplay opportunities.

In our current key roleplay a war on the southern coasts appears to be reaching its conclusion with the leaders of four nations being hosted for peace talks.

RDF votes BT and NuCa to high ranking roles

For the first time in its nine year history that AWP Regional Defence Force has been called upon to approve the promotions of two high ranking officers. For many years the RDF have been using a mission points system that gives additional credit for liberation operations, invasion spotting and long-term missions. For lower ranks troops are simply required to achieve a specific number of points and missions to promote but within the higher ranks for commissioned officers a number of specific criteria have to be met in order for promotion to be achieved. The most senior ranks require approval from either the Commissioned Officers or the full membership of the Regional Defence Force.

The Regional Defence Force has continued to grow alongside the growth of our region. We have welcomed back a number of skilled and talented former members as well as seeing experienced and inexperienced new nations develop into valued members of our Regional Defense Force. The commissioned officer ranks (achieved only through the completion of at least 75 RDF missions, commendation for exceptional service as well as demonstrable invasion spotting and liberation experience) have increased and now make up 22% of our active military force which shows the progression we have seen.

Benevolent Thomas has therefore been promoted to Colonel following the completion of 158 RDF missions in his short time with the military, including over 40 liberations and 36 recognised invasion spots that led to successful defences. Benevolent Thomas, who already has a sterling reputation across the NS world, has shown consistent and effective leadership in running operations and training new members and has been an incredible asset to the RDF.

Numero Capitan was promoted to General, the first RDF member to achieve this position, following a vote by the entire Regional Defence Force membership. Despite being otherwise engaged for much of their time in the military, Numero Capitan has accumulated 371 mission points and completed well over 200 missions. Numero is the second longest serving active RDF member (behind Lieutenant Deathorlife) and the only member of the RDF to have been awarded the Cross of Valour in recognition of the successful effort to liberate Soviet Union from a prolonged attempt by TNI forces to destroy the region. To this day the region remains safe with an active founder nation and the last remaining native to have survived the purge sits as its delegate.

You can make your jokes, although in fact only one of the three missions I mentioned was was brought to a close as a result of a founder nation revival.

Moreover, the cumulative impact of these operations was to drive Soviet Union out of the FRA by January 2014, following the last invasion by Osiris.

By all means, you were successful in 'liberating' the region from TNI in February 2008. Of course, if a substantial number of TNI non-update units had not been required elsewhere due to inter-regional crises occurring at the time, the outcome may well have been different. What began as a joint Congress of Sovereigns operation, under GB&I leadership with LKE and TNI support, was admittedly mishandled after it was handed over to TNI - although the professionalism of TNI's military soon improved following this event. Yet it is nonsense for you to pretend that your victory ushered in a new era of safety for Soviet Union inside the FRA. In fact, apart from its a brief participation in a failed RLA revival attempt, the region remained stagnant. Worse, it was ultimately left vulnerable to attack because - in spite of the dangers given the region's history - the founder nation was repeatedly permitted to lapse.

I seem to recall FRA outrage when TNI invaded Soviet Union in March 2012 and when LKE sent reinforcements to assist Osiris in September 2013.

Indeed, on the latter occasion, to obtain the withdrawal of LKE forces from Soviet Union, the FRA specifically requested a ceasefire in its war with the LKE (and indeed we granted their request). If the FRA actually wanted the LKE's WA units tied up in Soviet Union, why seek a ceasefire to get us to withdraw?
