Over the course of our region's 9 year history it has been one of the most dominant defender forces in the game, been a quiet backwater community for a faded group of friends, and everything in between.

We're back in the 'everything in between' but quickly recovering back to strength and it seemed like the right time to open up an embassy here. Several of us regularly check the Gameplay forum so will be around to respond to any questions, comments or requests and to update you on the latest goings on in AWP.

Our impact in NationStates has been wide and varied, our Regional Defense Force has been, overtly and covertly, at the forefront of some of the largest operations in NS history and we once ran the most elaborate network of spies in the game. The Regional Defense Force has completed over 350 successful operations over our history and we've pissed enough people off for this smily to have become commonplace on many regional forums:

16th January - AWP RDF secure Liberty Alliance
The AWP RDF undertook its first solo mission in over a year to secure the home of our former allies and friends Liberty Alliance following their recent invasion. The region is now under our protection and we are waiting to hear from the regions founder about future security arrangements.

The mission was the 329th RDF mission on record. After the operation Lieutenant Commander Numero Capitan reopened applications to the Regional Defense Force and promised more opportunities for the RDF to deploy in the face of a growing invader threat.

18th January - RDF Strikes Again With Four Successful Missions in One Update
Well that didn't take long, days after the liberation of Liberty Alliance from invader forces the AWP Regional Defense Force was back in action this update, taking part in four different missions. Rookie defender Private Benevolent Thomas joined Lieutenant Commander of the RDF Numero Capitan and other allies, including freelance defender Garandellia, in the liberation of Democratic Order of the Meme from DEN at minor update today. This mission was on the back of the defense of both the Duxian Isles and Singapore, and an additional support mission to bolster the delegate of The Rejected Realms all in the same update.

It's a great sign of things to come and took the RDF to a new high of 333 missions. We're encouraging all former members of the Regional Defense Force to check into Barracks for future defense plans.

19th January - AWP back under our control

Following an invasion by DEN forces the AWP RDF moved back into the 'A World Power' region, originally created as a new regional home for AWP, and took control of the delegacy once more and its fifth mission in 24 hours. Defeated DEN forces, including Brigadier General Knot, have begun to be banned from the region.

With the region back under our control newly promoted Sergeant Major Lord Tothe declared that "it's time to close this experiment with a new region...it's time to return to 00000 A World Power". Nations have already begun to move back to our regional home and the RDF will oversee the decommissioning of this region that never was.

RDF spotters manned the battlefronts during major update last night for any other threats but reported a quiet night across the board.

22nd January - Liberation, come on and liberate and have a good time

The AWP RDF and their allies were in action again this update, flying/sleepwalking around NationStates performing liberation after liberation. The update force completed four successful liberations freeing the regions of Imperial Russian Empire, Singapore, Celestia and the Sol Alliance from raider delegates.

The liberations bring the number of successful RDF operations to 342 and the Regional Defense Force have completed an impressive 14 operations across NationStates in the last week. Mission orders are waiting for non-updaters in the RDF Barracks.

The RDFs explosion of activity has seen the AWP flag flown across NationStates once again and in performing defensive operation after defensive operation our tireless troops have been given recognition for their fine work:

Retrospectively, Sedge has also been promoted to Master Sergeant in recognition of his past services to the RDF.

29th January - Historical vote in new Citizens' Assembly

After much deliberation and strong arguments made both in favour of and against the motion to leave the Founderless Regions Alliance the new Citizens' Assembly has decisively voted to leave the Founderless Regions Alliance after over 8 years of association. 00000 A World Power was approached by then FRA Intelligence Minister Falconias and asked to apply for membership in the Alliance in 2007. Neasmyrna was considering merging the region entirely with 10000 Islands at the time but eventually opted to join the Alliance and sit in the Regional Assembly himself.

AWP had a prominent role in the alliance from 2008 to 2010 and contributed a number of senior Regional Defense Force members to the FRA Rangers and to the Intelligence effort. AWP has supplied numerous Intelligence Ministers to the FRA over the years including Numero Capitan and Rancid Bunnies/Kobold. Throughout its time in the Alliance the region's leadership has forged strong relationships and friendships with many other member regions and nations and these will no doubt continue long into the future - but the region has opted to take its own path now as it rebuilds.

In forming his opinion in the Citizens' Assembly debate the region's leader, Numero Capitan, stated that leaving would be "no reflection on those within the FRA or the friends we made through it... doing so would be a reflection of reality above anything else. It has been a long time since AWP has functioned as an active region within the FRA".

Other members of the region pitched in their own views and experiences of the FRA. World Assembly Delegate AP3 10 gave his frank opinion on the Alliance and did not feel that membership had ever been effectively justified to individual citizens, with too much information retained at the top level. Dyr Nasad put a strong case for AWP's continued association with the Alliance stating that "AWP's own history shows that it is perfectly possible to be a part of the FRA and be independently respected". But serving Vice Chancellor of the FRA, Benevolent Thomas, acknowledged that AWP "needs our full attention in order to grow" and conceded that this might be the right time for AWP to leave the Alliance for its own interests. Others disputed whether that was the case with Dyr arguing that "with this crowd starting the rebuild, no one will be able to ignore AWP" anyway. Wibblefeet, who opted not to exercise his right to vote on the motion, argued that either decision would not significantly weaken AWP and he emphasised his faith in the rebuilding effort that was taking place, saying that he has little doubt AWP can again become a force to be reckoned with militarily: "AWP has always functioned similarly (not quite identically) to a cult of personality. Originally around Neasmyrna. Now around Numero."

Numero Capitan closed the discussion and summarised that "AWP has always managed its external relations very informally and the FRA has been the only exception to that. Our friends have always known who they are and we need the freedom to understand and learn who our true friends are now, at this present time, because many of our old friends aren't around in any meaningful capacity to support us anymore. We need to respond to different challenges than those we faced when we were active in the FRA and we are better able to do that free of the structures, traditions, history and conventions of the FRA and free of the burden of reforming those accordingly.

The community we already have here is a wealth of experience in defending, intelligence and regional security. I have more confidence in the benefits of building from that core within AWP than anything else at this time."

The Citizens' Assembly is the newly formed legislature of AWP, created by the region's Leader Numero Capitan to give all citizens a voice in the management of regional affairs.

Bear in mind this was during the "Dark Age" of the game (between the introduction of influence in 2006 and the move from Jolt in 2009), when activity was at its lowest. I think this was around a top-20 population at the time.

They know full well. They're doing the ole FRA truck of using Gov as an updater and nothing more. Not saying it's the best idea but it's an old one that still usually keeps him at arms length.
