After weeks of discussion, the second class of the Raiding Hall of Fame has finally been finalized. This class each brought something different to raiding over the years and we would not be where we are without them. Their service to raiding cannot be understated. Congrats to all of the inductees.

Crushing Our Enemies
Crushing Our Enemies has served raiding as a member of The Black Hawks for over a decade. During his time with TBH, he has served in countless leadership roles including Head of Military, Head of Foreign Affairs, and second Commander. Throughout his career, COE has always displayed integrity, which has progressed raiding overall. His leadership during the Predator incident and overall has set a standard for all raiders for years to come.

Scardino
Scardino founded Lone Wolves United in April 2005, which has grown to become one of the most recognized raiding organization in NationStates history. Through LWU and on his own, relations were developed with most GCRs where Scar served as a voice and advocate for raiders. Scardino brought discipline and ideals to strive for through his writings including “Of Scardinoism.” His focus has always been the big picture of raiding and its impact. His influence over the years has helped raiders be seen as a valuable member of the GP community.

North East Somerset
North East Somerset has set a standard for being a raiding advocate behind the scenes and in the spotlight. For over a decade, his tireless work in many capacities has furthered raiding exponentially. Since being a member of the DEN and co-founding The New DEN, his work has focused on intelligence, diplomatic relations, and GCRs. Through Great Britain and Ireland, The New Inquisition, and The Land of Kings and Emperors, NES has ensured strong relations between raiders and imperialists. He helped raiding become a part of so many regions that do not identity as raider as well as GCRs. NES also organized two Future of Raiding Conferences that was attended by most raiding organizations. Even in modern times, his work in intelligence, understanding influence, and passwords has benefited raiding tremendously.

Shadow
Shadow started raiding in 2004 before joining Children of the Grave, a historic raiding group, as one of their original staff members. Through Children of the Grave, Shadow helped execute the 12 Raids of Christmas as well as the first all girl raid of East Asian Dominion in April of 2006. Recently, Shadow has continued to serve raiding in multiple organizations through her infiltration and sleeping. Her leadership in raiding has largely been behind the scenes, but she continues to influence many raiders today.

The Heights
Originally part of A Better Colonial Ambition, The Heights was part of the merge that became The Invaders, a historical raiding organization. During his time, The Heights served as a leader in strengthening unity among raiders during the early years. In 2004, The Heights co-hosted the Global Summit on Raiderplay and Defensive Operations. This summit was a gathering of raiders and defenders to “achieve a binding consensus agreement on the issues of raiderplay rules and practice, comity and cordiality between defender and raider organizations, the self-liberation of acquired regions and the development of raider colonies.” His professionalism as a player has set a standard for raiders today to follow.

Stop giving misogynistic abusers a platform. Anyone who sides with Tiktok Star Andrew Tate even 1% of what he says will be treated as enemy who should be shamed out of society. Impressions+Views+Videowatches=$. Nothing he says is new or revolutionary. I don't care if he said "some good stuff", it's still bad because: the more you watch him, the more ad revenue MONEY and algorithm BOOSTS you're giving him to traffick victims. And don't say the victim lied, a young man stupidly told me that the victim confessed to lying, I told em to link me proof, articles or the Audio of her confession, he googled and found 0 proof 0 articles, and he realized he was spreading fake rumors he heard and BELIEVED without fact-check. Don't brand victims as liars without GOOGLING. Debated here

RAIDERVISION EVENT HANDBOOK 2016
Inspired by FRAVision ~ Materials adapted with permission from Wop

TABLE OF CONTENTS

  • I. What is RaiderVision?
  • II. How do I join? What songs can I submit?
  • III. How does judging work? When does it start?
  • IV. When is the awards ceremony? What are the prizes?

I. What is RaiderVision?

RaiderVision is an OOC song contest, largely based on the recently-ended FRAVision Song Contest, which is in turn based on the real life Eurovision Song Contest. As FRAVision put it –

“What isn't FRAVision? FRAVision is the answer to everything, the greatest way to win over the subject(s) of your affection, and the only verifiable way to actually "win" the game of NationStates.”

...While none of that is 100% true per se, RaiderVision is a cultural event unlike any other on NS. This event features regions and players from across the game coming together to participate in a fun and competitive, song contest. FRAVision ran for four years, and The Black Hawks are excited to be carrying on its spirit of inter-regional, game-wide community into a new era.

Simply put, RaiderVision is a contest where players represent their regions and submit their songs. Player(s) can submit songs on behalf of their region and, if they win, the player will receive an individual prize and their region will have the honor of being the host of next year’s event! In the name of simplicity of organization, the event will remain on the already-known RaiderCon forums, but the winning region will be given powers on our forum to run the next contest as host. We intend for this to minimize past drama concerning whether the winning region is active enough to set up a new forum and organize this, as well as whether than can be trusted as admin.

This event's hosts and administrators are the members of The Black Hawks’ Council of Hawks. As its name implies, the event is being run as an event under the RaiderCon umbrella, but like the con, it is in spirit and in practice an event for everyone, from every alignment, and we really do hope that you'll enjoy it. Whether you submit a song or just want to tune in and listen, there's no avoiding the fact that there is much fun to be had during these awesome weeks!

As always, the RaiderCon Forums can be found HERE.. If you've attended a RaiderCon event in the past, you should already be masked to see RaiderVision 2016!

II. How do I join? What songs can I submit?

Information to Know:

  1. Submissions are open from December 17th until December 31st. Anyone may submit a song.
  2. One song per contestant. There is no limit on how many songs can be submitted on a single region's behalf, but regions should remember that having votes in their favor split between several entries can hurt their odds of winning during the judging period. For this reason, we will continue to offer a players the option to flag their entries as "non-competing."
  3. You can submit any sort of song you like. It can be a cover of a real song (e.g. you can sing something by Lil’ Dicky, Death Cab for Cutie, or The Killers), you can write an original work, or it can be related to your nation. Writing lyrics related to NS is another fun option. It's your choice, and long as it involves your own work in some way!
  4. The song can be hosted in whatever way we can see it. Youtube or a reliable online mp3 host is recommended. If you're not sure how to do this, feel free to contact me for assistance.
  5. You can sing, but you don't have to sing. Simply playing an instrument, or even pursuing some outrageous avant-garde collection of humming machines, is a valid entry. Once again, you get complete control over what you submit. Don't be afraid to take advantage of that fact!

How to Submit

Contestants post the following form in the Submissions forum to enter themselves into the contest.

Topic Title: (Name of individual, group or region)'s Entry

Name of Candidate:
Name of Entry:
Inspiration/Description of Entry:
Entry: (link to video, song or posting of lyrics)
Why should you win?

Do you want this song to be flagged as non-competing (e.g. will not be judged as a regional entry) Choosing this is only advisable if your region has already submitted a song.

III. How does judging work?

Judging occurs from January 1st – January 8th

Once the submission phase is over, all voting attendees will be able vote on their preferred songs. Voting attendees will rate their top 5 songs in order of preference (awarding their favorite 12 points, then 10 points, 8 points and so forth). This will be done by posting their votes in a designated thread. Anyone who submits an entry may vote. Any region participating may also send an official representative to vote on behalf of their region. Voting for oneself is not against the rules, but is traditionally discouraged. There will also be a public poll for this year’s new award: The Crowd Favorite!

IV. When is the awards ceremony? What are the prizes?

On January 9th, the Awards Ceremony will commence. The following awards are given:

1. First Place Entry - Whole Note Award (Gold)
2. Second Place Entry - Half Note Award (Silver)
3. Third Place Entry - Quarter Note Award (Bronze)
4. Crowd Favorite – The Moves Like Jakker Award

The first place contestant's region is also given the privilege of hosting the RaiderVision Song Contest next year, using the infrastructure and Con forums maintained by The Black Hawks.

Happy Composing! You may post here or contact the hosts with any further questions about the Contest.

Yours truly,

The Black Hawks

Genuinely curious, any chance we could get a brief detailing on what the logistics behind this would be? Personally, I don't have huge issue with keeping it on one forum, just am curious what the "hosting" will entail.

Good to see the event living on, though, and I'm looking forward to seeing all of the various submissions! :)

Obviously, We haven't done it before, so I can't be 100% :P But as I imagine it, basically we'd mask folks as mods and use autotools and such to give them necessary abilities (much as we do on TBH forums for council members who are not admins - autotools to change mask and such). The "Host" can do basically everything a host would normally do - mask new attendees, set the exact dates (though the goal with this is to keep it in the year, but make it late in the year so folks are more likely to be on break and have time to submit), etc. We can do this because, well, there's not really anything secure on the Con forums. I suppose we'd probably make sure they couldn't read the HoF voting threads because we like to keep those private, and we don't want to go full admin just in case, but a moderator with the right perm sets and tools can do almost everything an admin would need to do after the initial setup. The idea being that, first off there's a lot less admin work for the host to have to deal with (the system of forums and masks is already in place as replicated from recent FRAvision forums, we'd just copy, archive, and update), and second off if the host happens to falls through at any point (not masking, disappears before awards like CoE did at one point IIRC, etc), TBH is in a position where we can step in and keep the event on track. It seemed to me like having someone either make a new forum or create a large rework in their own every year was a ton of unnecessary work, and also that there was always squabbling whenever someone seen as on a more extreme end of one alignment was host and people had to decide every year if they wanted to be on their forums. Many of you, on the other hand, have already placed your trust in us in using the Con forums! Ideally, RaiderVision and RaiderCon continue to coexist just about six months apart (early July and late December) by remaining trustworthy and efficient.

tl;dr make 'em mods and give 'em autotools, and they can run the whole thing, hopefully without TBH having to step in past a half hour of admin work to efficiently update things for the next year. :)

edit: oh, the host would also be in charge of all the fun stuff like advertising! :P
