DEN Stuns Defenders on 8th Birthday

Postby Of crazed » Sat Feb 25, 2012 12:01 am

Last update, in honor of the DEN’s upcoming 8th birthday, the DEN and allied raider forces captured Catholic. The Black Hawks, The Black Riders, and Europeia all came to show support on this historic night.

This raid continues a tradition of amazing DEN birthday statement raids, including Freedom and Peace, multiple ADN regions, GRA, among others. This year, defender ally Catholic joins DEN history by falling.

The statement this year, raider unity is the key to any region falling. Defenders could do nothing but pray as their ally fell prey to the DEN and friends. Catholic did everything in its power to defend itself, including spying on raiders, gathering 20 endorsements on the native delegate, gathering defender allies, and even defending from time to time. None of it mattered.

The DEN has maintained an active raider presence in NationStates for 8 years, and invite raiders everywhere to celebrate this historic victory and day.

From Anarchism to Zion.

History will record DEN as the most notorious, well-organized & disciplined raider army ever to grace the battlefield; founded February 27th, 2004.

Catholic was defender leaning? I'm not keeping up with the game...

My train of thinking goes like this Catholic -> CD -> Right to life -> Raider (at least that's what RtL was considered according to the embassy reports of Defender groups..). Opps.

I guess the moral is that Catholic != CD :P

How in the hell was Catholic considered defender? They've worked hard to remain neutral.

All this shows are that raiders do not care if you are fender or neutral, to them, you are a target. A trophy. Disgusting, absolutely disgusting. What's next a Jewish themed region? A Muslim one?

I can see the case being made for attacking a fender leaning or unabashedly pro-fender region (I don't agree with it, but it would be more understandable), but Catholic? They simply wanted to be left alone, to debate theology and politics. They act as a stronghold for Catholics of this game. They don't care about raiders, they don't care about fenders, they care about Catholic. And only Catholic.

All you've done is shown the NS world that any region, even if it only wants to be left alone, is a target. This region has done nothing wrong, but espouse their beliefs and usually they kept those beliefs to themselves.

Nothing warranted this attack.

Maybe. Maybe not. Guess you'll just have to wait and see like everyone else :)

It wasn't my idea! But he seems to think we only raid religion-themed regions, so the choices are limited.

Saying "What's next..." doesn't mean that I necessarily think you restrict yourselves to religiously themed regions. But the attacking of Catholic, the "excommunication" ban count, etc. is in poor taste. Then again, raiders being tacky is not really that shocking.

So, Catholic is somehow more important than the other regions we raid? What makes raiding Catholic in such poor taste? I thought it was quite fun, myself.

Well yeah. It's not like they can attack defenders directly; any defender with a brain doesn't set up base in a region with no founder. I know SPACE is a target; that's the price we pay for choosing not to lock down or refound the region. Invaders (and defenders, for that matter) annoy me sometimes, but their antics are something I generally accept in good humor so long as both sides are respectful to the Natives and don't overstay their welcome.

I'm not at all into gameplay but Mike speaks to a wider, eloquent point. There are people out there that simply don't want to be engaged in DEN's nonsense. They don't want to be engaged in the defending nonsense. They want to express their views on this social media/political simulator and as a community of generally like minded people we should accept that. (As a quick aside: Why is that so hard to understand? It's not a "fender" or "raider" point of view, it's simply a "f-uck off" view. There's not a lot of intricacy to it, but I'm sure anyone can grasp it.) For instance, as someone who has RPed with a somewhat-closed community of nations for the last five or so years, I don't go trampling into General demanding that they use "IC" and "OOC" tags. It would be ridiculous and, likely, deserving of a warning. I feel that this is something of the same. Using a region which has, as far as I know, been a bastion of relatively sane-sounding Catholics as a whipping post for your birthday only goes to show how poor your taste is. Nothing else. If individuals, who have given the game a good deal of theological ramblings, want to be left alone it would be nice to leave them alone. Kicking some out and trampling on views that they hold quite seriously is not simply a nice quip but awkward nonsense that you do not want associated with your so-called 'birthday.'

Raiding period is in poor taste. The tacky part was attacking a region that didn't even do anything to offend you. It's not like Catholic was pro-fender here, even though you characterized it as such.

I can understand that, but the game is what the game is. Unfortunately, there's no effective way for regions to simply opt out of raider and defender contests other than having an active Founder. I wish the rules could be different, but they aren't, and nothing you say to raiders or defenders will change them. So effectively, as a "neutral" region Delegate I have a choice: get mad at every raider and/or defender that comes across my doorstep and try to make them as angry as I am, or try to have fun with it. I prefer the latter approach, since it puts me in a better position to make friends with the good people in both camps and effectively oppose the malicious and overbearing ones. It's a part of the game I don't always like, but it is a part of the game.

To raiders, everyone is a target . If your not a raider you must be a defender supporter :P Or so it seems in some cases.

The DEN has maintained an active raider presence in NationStates for 8 years, and invite raiders everywhere to celebrate this historic victory and day.

Active yes. Raiding under the DEN name on a monthly basis? No.

Christian Democrat's little point about never active defending is false, when he himself has defended. I think he believes his revisionist history so much, that he himself forgets the real history!
