PASSED: Repeal "Freedom of Marriage Act"

A carefully preserved record of the most notable World Assembly debates.

Dear World Assembly...

"...Your latest act to repeal Freedom of Marriage Act is the most unconscionably evil proposition to hit the GA floor in a long while. It is well established from previous debates that the author, this "Kenny" dude, is a BIG GAY HOMOPHOBE and his hellish efforts must be shot down!"
10
14%
"...While we respect the motives of the lovably buffoonish sponsors of this repeal, we simply cannot risk striking out one resolution protecting gay couples when leaving both in place will do twice the job. Thanks but no thanks on your bridge to nowhere."
6
9%
"...This much-ballyhooed COCR may APPEAR to protect gay marriage on its face, but everyone knows that the Magic Invisible Clauses actually order us to pump all gay couples full of lead as soon as they reach the courthouse! Just ask the Secretariat!"
5
7%
"...We tend to agree with the Railanan ambassador that the institution of marriage is nothing but a glorified baby factory, and opening the door to loving gay couples -- adorable though they are -- poses a direct threat to our birthrate. Our NS country may already have 20 billion citizens, but that's still not enough! REPEAL FOMA!"
5
7%
"...The Kennyites actually make a good point here. Although that probably means the world is ending, and everybody should run for cover, we have to agree that redundant legislation should be stricken out when other resolutions already do a better job at it than the original. The Gittin'-Jiggy-with-It Republic of $NAME votes FOR."
19
27%
"...Thanks for pointing out that even though FOMA only protects same-sex couples, COCR protects couples of any kind seeking marriage. I can't wait to tie the knot with my Hot Alien Cousin! Mom and Dad probably won't talk to me anymore, but I fail to see the downside! WOOHOO! Me and Kalinda are hitting Vegas as soon as I hit "Send"!"
13
19%
"...Your latest episode, "Kenny versus the Gay Mafia," kicks so much ass it's not even funny! Slanderous accusations! Heavy Wild Turkey intake! Saber-rattling threats against Chechnya! A frickin' DEATH STAR, man! Let the critics grouse that it's just a rerun from 2006; you guys deserve an Emmy!"
1
1%
"...Alright, I'm confused. That maniac threatening to blow up the GA wants to repeal FOMA, yes? But won't blowing up the GA effectively repeal ALL standing legislation? Tell him to press the damned button already and let's avoid another corrupt and hollow debate!"

Always hated that resolution.

I wasn't going to try to argue that, but that would makes a great resolution.

Secretary-General: And the trophy for authoring WA Resolution #313 goes to...

[fiddles with envelope]

The WA Gnomes' Willing Bitch of Omigodtheyclonedkenny!!

[cheering rises from the delegations as Captain Chiang is shown at her seat covering her mouth in delighted shock as she rises to approach the dais]

Announcer: [over PA system] This the Federal Republic's first successful resolution in over six years, its first successful repeal in nearly seven years, and its first successful repeal in the World Assembly. This is their fourth successful repeal overall and their third successful repeal of Human Rights legislation.

Capt. Chiang: [still gasping from shock:] Wow, this is so unexpected. We have so many people to thank for this award. First, the authors of Freedom of Marriage Act for being insufferable enough to properly motivate us to repeal their resolution. Also, the region of Texas, which has shown faith in our leadership by electing us to the cabinet again on the promise that we would repeal FOMA. The Rejected Realms for the endorsements and sincere support for our endeavors here. The AO Conspiracy™, for doing what they do best: conspiring with game staff to ruin the game for everybody else -- this time by convincing them to rig the vote in our favor so it wouldn't matter what the actual votes were...er, um, forget I said that last part! [shifts eyes nervously] ...Moving on: 10000 Islands, The West Pacific, Osiris, Canada, NationStates, Gatesville, and the region of Gay(!), along with other major regions we're not too familiar with, for pledging their Delegate votes in support of our efforts. The participants in this debate (all three of them since this went to vote!), for giving us ideas for even more useless resolutions to repeal! (For instance...) Mousebumples, for not stomping this repeal like they usually do--

[awards music begins to play, softly]

Oh, no! Please don't cut me off! We've been waiting six years to get here!

And last but certainly not least: Horatio Sulla, for donating some of their Wild Turkey™ supply to make these efforts bearable -- and to my completely platonic buddy Susa, for failing yet again to blow up the General Assembly so that this vote could conclude.

[choking back tears]

And lest I forget: the fans! [wild cheering and applause] After all, you are the reason we're here.

Again, thank you all for the confidence you've bestowed in us. See you during the next divisive social debate!

[awards music crescendos as Capt. Chiang finally descends the steps again]

Announcer: Stay tuned for the awards for Most Justifiable Defenestration, Most Delicious Pie Thrown in a WA Debate, and the Author of WA Resolution #314! All coming up after the break...

OOC: Wasn't anticipating this to win. Otherwise, I would have switched out to my main nation so it would get the trophy. Ah well.

Considering that the main argument for this repeal was that the resolution in question was redundant, we find it amusing that the repeal's passage dropped our Civil Rights rating from 38 to 27. It transformed our nation from an "Inoffensive Centerist Democracy" to a "Moralistic Democracy".

Who could've foreseen the day when Kennyites would make Kawaiians more moralistic?

OOC: Mine dropped from 74 to 70. It's almost as though there was no overlap between the civil rights coverage of the two resolutions in question; in point of fact, it's almost as though the WA mechanism has no regard for the fact that I already legalized equal marriage in daily issues, and there was no reason for any drop whatsoever in civil rights rating. I guess even repeals violate national sovereignty.
