Why is it that when a Senior Game Official gives you the detailed reason that's it's a lot of work for just a few nations, you reply: We'll why isN'T it a good idea? But when someone else posts EXACTLY the same argument in fewer words, you reply: Think of how much coding and time that'll have to go ...

Especially if it's an artificial kind.

Folks, this is the SPOILER ALERT thread, not the "Let's critique issues" thread. Back on topic, please.

Cities tend to grow near trade routes, which is why most major cities formed near ocean ports, lakes, or major rivers. Modern cities also grow when near rail nexuses, highway intersections and such. Capitols are placed by politicians, so they don't need to make sense. Washington, DC is the US capito...

You would almost certainly have to write your own sorting / alphabetizing script to make this work. The game doesn't offer anything like this, and I've seen no third party tools designed for this purpose.

Australian Republic's point, like almost every Tech thread OP, is that he thinks this is an awesome idea and doesn't want stock answers as to why it isn't. This simple piece of code can open up new doors for NationStates. That's true of virtually every suggestion ever made here in Tech. That doesn't...

In the spirit of the "Dissenting Opinions in Rulings" thread ... I too am extremely opposed to removing the Branding rule. I saw a ton of that sort of crap before we instituted that rule back in 2005-6 or so - sometimes 30 pages of egoboo and regional recruitment poorly disguised as GA pr...

WA Committees don't officially contain representatives of any nations. Updated for accuracy. I don't think we've ever restricted players from setting up committees and roleplaying them in the Diplomacy forums. We just don't give those roleplays any weight in terms of the actual game or metagame. My...

This "shopping around for mods" idea you've conjured up continues to be a fiction. When has it ever happened? It's never been much of a factor in the GA, but it's a constant annoyance in the Game Mod back office. Mod A makes a ruling, which is then appealed. Mod B handles the initial appe...

This is exactly the sort of thing that should be discussed via telegrams before invoking the Wrath of Mod, particularly if you aren't sure of the particulars.

Mentors, like the ever helpful Swith Witherward, are also a reasonable choice. Thanks for the research, SW.

The vast majority of nations in this game do not roleplay. As this feature is really only oriented towards roleplay, and even in this thread there is some argument about what factors should be considered or how they should be weighted ... it's something that really belongs in a factbook.

Roleplay threads don't have a set expiration. The originator can reopen a thread weeks, months, or years later without any problem. Some RPs are really slow and take take months between "turns". On the other hand, random nations posting for the first time in a thread that's been idle for j...

You cannot control what issues you receive, so there's no way to limit one particular subclass. You can, of course, dismiss any that you don't like. Your nation's custom fields will always be mentioned in your national description. You can, of course, choose a different national animal. I'd suggest ...

While banner placement is often predicated by issues, Issue Editors and Issue Mods have naught to do with banner placement. So don't expect a firm answer on this topic. You'll be limited to apocryphal player experiences at best.
