Data leak

Only (encrypted) password hashes were exposed, not plaintext passwords. However, you should still change your password if it was exposed, because hashes aren't impervious to brute-force cracking by an attacker who has your data offline, especially if your password contains dictionary words. Perhaps...

Well if a data leak happens like this again, will it be as major, or more affecting or less? Well, if a dataleak happens like this again, it will be identical! Snark aside, all events are unique. We're taking this as an opportunity to go over some of our code and tighten things up so the likelihood...

An old puppet of mine seems to have been affected (what are the chances?). I just refounded it after over two years of non-existence, and I must admit I'd forgotten about it and don't particularly care about it. The password is one I use rarely and isn't the same as this main account of mine. Is th...

The server keeps a specific "key" with it that is able to decypher this hash and verify if the password enters matches. Any hacker will just have the hash and will not have the ability to see what the password is from the hash code. We don't actually. While I don't want to go into the det...

Its not a web hosting issue, its a "We never thought they'd make that many posts when we made the forum" issue. Alrighty. Should there be a forum reset? No need. We just bumped up the size of the column from 3 to 4 bytes. If we were to come close to it again (highly unlikely) we can bump ...

Forum problem fixed!

We ran out of numbers on our server and had to import some more. Thank you very much to Blaat and Ballotonia who helped fix things!

I am aware of the differences. However, if you want to let people log into your forums with their NS account, OpenId is a better fit that OAuth (which is a way for them to grant access to their account to the forum). Also, setting up the OpenId delegate is actually much easier than you make it out t...

While we do not (currently) support OAuth, we do support OpenID which may do what you want. Take a look at the bottom of your nation's settings page. Can OpenID be used to do some of the things tool authors are clamoring for? I don't know much about it. There seem to be two usage cases: ⋅ ...

Does that mean Parhe was hacked :/

Nope. It was a bug in some of the code I pushed.

Everything should be working right now. I haven't fixed all of the root causes, but any problems which do occur should fix themselves in around 10 seconds.

I'm new to OpenID, but if a user enters their server and delegate information in the settings page, does that mean they'd then be able to log in to another website using the OpenID "www.nationstates.net/nation=Laevendell" (in my case) or would the OpenID be something else (or have I quite...

While we do not (currently) support OAuth, we do support OpenID which may do what you want. Take a look at the bottom of your nation's settings page. Hm, just OpenID delegation it seems, and it requires effort on the part of the user (bad!). Am I wrong in this assessment? That is correct, however t...
