Signups are now closed—no new entrants can be accepted. You can watch the Games in the RP thread.

After being voted by the NationStates Olympic Committee as the host city of the first Olympic Winter Games, the city of Aeropag officially opens signups for the Games to all NSOC members (if you’re not already a member, you can sign up for that, too).

Each nation is permitted to send a delegation of up to 170 athletes, participating in any or all of the eighty-nine events that will be contested at the Games. When signing up, you must provide names for each of these athletes, so other nations will have something to call them in RPs (but you can use a random name generator to create these names, or provide lists of first and last names (or however many sets of names your nation’s naming system requires :p ) and ask that I create one). Each of these athletes may have a skill value, which can be expressed as a ranking or any numeric value system you’re willing to explain—inside the guts of the scorinator, it will be a floating-point value between 0.25 and 0.75, but it’s simple enough to convert. All athletes in your nation will have their rankings adjusted to a mean of 0.5, unless you specify a lower value—as low as 0.25, but at that level, all of your athletes will be equally bad. Note that there is a small bonus for nations entering few athletes and a small penalty for nations entering many athletes—not enough to come close to balancing the number of medals the nations will get, but hopefully enough to discourage everyone from sending a delegation of maximum size.

Signups for the Games will be closed at 2006–03–17 00:00 UTC. The Games will start at 2006–03–17 08:00 in some time zone, but I haven’t yet decided whether this will be UTC or my local time (UTC−0600). A complete schedule of events (OpenDocument spreadsheet, 12.7 KiB) is available in an open file format, since certain other NSOC members have been most unhelpful in producing a specification for a format produced by some popular proprietary software.

Below is a list of the maximum number of athletes that each nation is allowed to enter in each event—no more links, I promise! :p

That's 54 athletes and a hockey team, whatever that adds up to.

78. I used the same numbers as LE, apparently.

I like the Curly Bunnies, by the way. ;)

Wentland is not a particularly brilliant winter sports nation, but its athletes will do their best...

(And the Curling teams have been added to my roster)

The Boudra-Boudra delegation will follow shortly.

OOC: In the biathlon event 'pursuit' the startlist normally depends on the result of the sprint.
So what with [NS]Bazalonia, who submitted an athlete for the pursuit only?

We're only any good at luge because of the popularity of street luge in Schiavonia, for which there are a number of tracks in our country.

The Becquerelian Winter Olympic Team

Due to Becquerelia's near lack of winter and cold weather, our participation is limited to those who picked up outdoor sports elsewhere, and a whole bunch of really good speed skaters (Speed skating is a bit of a national obsession here, which is a good thing for our medal chances).

Note: Names of competitior is followed with a ranking between 0.25 to 0.75. The higher the number, the better they are.

OOC: In the biathlon event 'pursuit' the startlist normally depends on the result of the sprint.

Slani, I forgot to remove the pursuit on the signup list. Thanks for pointing that out. :)

I’ll ask Bazalonia about that on IRC, and fix the list in the first post for everyone else.

Also, Schiavonia has made me realize that not all nations will want their athletes’ rankings adjusted to a mean of 0.5. If you do want a reduced average strength for your athletes (because you’re not good at winter sports, you’re Abysmalistan, et cetera), you can request any mean value between 0.25 (at which all of your athletes will be 0.25, since lower values are not possible) and 0.5. I’ll update the first post to include this, too.

STEVIDIAN TEAM (SVD)

Stevid will only be sending two teams for the Ice Hockey. One for Women and one for Men. (OOC: this is because Ice Hockey is the only winter olympic sport i understand properly ;))

The Team is as follows:

Mens Team
One Mens Hockey Team- First Team of Six minus subsititutes
(Over all Skill Rating: 0.58)

Womens Team
One Womens Hockey Team- First Team of six minus subsititutes
(Over all skill rating: 0.36)

OOC: If you need names for the team members, just say and i'll edit the post. And again i say Stevid will participate in just one sport purely because in RL terms i "just" understand it- every other sport just blows over my head with the speed of a concorde.
I don't quite understand the skill rating thing so i've had ashot at it and i hope everything is okay....

The Official Kelsian Winter Olympics Delegation is listed below, with athletes' names followed by their 0.25-0.75 skill ranking (.75 being the best).
